Well, going to order now and hopefully when it arrives, update it and get the PocketGPS camera database installed (want both UK and Europe!) |
OK, so now go back to the top of this thread and read carefully everything Mike wrote. Especially read carefully Mikealder wrote: | I would use Windows Explorer to make a back up BEFORE you do anything else with the device. | He means BEFORE you do anything else with it - put it on charge, then use Win Explorer to copy the whole lot BEFORE YOU START USING IT. _________________ Dennis

Bump!
I received the device today, quite a cool thing it is! I've attached it to my PC and am now backing up each and every file to my computer like you say.
I will then give it a full charge before upgrading the maps to the latest version. Is the speed camera database PocketGPS has good? Are there better databases out there? Can I even use a custom database on mine?
Regards,
Alex |

There are other databases out there. Indeed, the TomTom has probably got some on already, a free issue, factory fitted (subscription to continue getting updates). If you know anything about cameras, you'll find that the TomTom ones are out of date and incomplete.
Naturally, we feel our database is the best. Maybe you could ask to see if any of the others have that mobile camera we show on Broad Town Road? _________________ Dennis

Heh, i've seen that mobile camera before, parks along the road near the Church. Pesky thing as well as it turns up every few weeks at random times.
But naturally, being a student, I can't afford to speed (in terms of points of insurance and fines), but I can't also afford to pay for a speed camera database.
I'll just use the TomTom one for now and hope for the best |

OK, you pays your money (or you doesn't pays your money) and takes your choice. The terms "student" and "not speeding" are sometimes mutually exclusive. Promise to tell us if your strategy fails - it would be ironic if it failed you over that mobile near the church! _________________ Dennis

Yea, well i'll just have to be careful. Perhaps when I get a little more cash (just paid £300 rent ), I might consider the database, it does seem like a good deal for £20/year.
What is the European camera coverage like? |

I dunno - I just know it's useless for Corfu. But then, so is my satnav because none of them cover Corfu!
Seriously, try making "Student" and "Beer" mutually exclusive for a week or two and you'll save enough to get our database and a fighting chance of keeping that licence as clean as the day it was issued. _________________ Dennis

If your students are anything like ours (and why wouldn't they be?), I'd suggest it is an easier task to make 'student' and 'breathing' mutually exclusive terms than 'student' and 'beer'..... _________________ David |

Our students are better than your students. Our students breath beer. _________________ Dennis

Yeah, we get news coverage of your students 'breathing' their beer all over everybody at soccer matches in Europe! _________________ David |

But then your students can't drink until 21, can they? And do they follow football anyway _________________ David

Used to be 21 in my province (Ontario). Lowered to 18 and raised to 19 (current age). All provinces have the minimum as 18 or 19 now, depending on province.
The US game of football differs from the Canadian game and all North Americans refer to your 'football' as soccer.
Not to be confused with 'Aussie Rules Football', which NOBODY knows what the game is all about, nobody sober, anyway... _________________ David |

no beer.... does not compute...
But, i've done a good job. License for 3 years, no points and only 1 speed awareness course (before I actually got my license :D)
I'll see what I can figure out. |
