I have recenty noticed a lack of sound on my 720. By this, I mean a complete loss, no voices startup tone etc.
As far as I recall, these were working after the last update so something seems to have happened since then.
Would appreciate any help in restoring the sound please. _________________ TT 720 Go

Start with the easiest thing to look at.
Preferences--Turn sound off. You didn't do so, did you (If the icon says 'turn sound on', then it's off) _________________ David |

Hi David
The icon definitely shows "turn sound off" with the cross on the speaker. _________________ TT 720 Go

Have you tried a reset of the unit? Also, try the Clear Flash tool found here .
Download and run it 3 times.
If that doesn't help, you can try making an Explorer, not Home. backup of your unit's contents. Ensure hidden files/folders are showing. Once the backup is done, then reformat the internal drive of the unit and restore the backup using Explorer again.
Does that help?
If not and you still are getting no sounds whatsoever (what is the volume setting for your speakers? Check that before doing ANY of the above), then I'm afraid it's a hardware issue. _________________ David |

Is the memory card fitted? if so try taking it out as you might have the application on the memory card by mistake and the LoquendoTTS files on the device, this can result in no sound - Mike |

Another idea, could the "Speaker Output" be set to "BlueTooth", "Audio Out" or something else other than "Internal Speaker"? _________________ Garmin Nuvi 2599

I lost my sound after connecting to Home last night. Using the above advice (taking card out) my sound is back. I noticed that I have the Loquendo TTS files on both Internal and Memory card, do I need to delete one of them?.
Thanks
Mike

Tou need to establish whether the device internal memory or the SD card is running the latest Navcore:
With the card inserted boot the unit and tap the sat strength meter (lower right corner) followed by the Version box, the resultant screen will show you information about the Navcore software installed - make a note of this.
Switch the device off, remove the card and boot the unit than look again at the Navcore version installed make a not of it.
Which offers the higher number of Navcore software, or are they both the same? - Mike |

Put the SD card in a card reader and delete all the loose files that are in the root of the memory card - this is files not contained within and folders.
Once they have gone I would also delete the LoquendoTTS folder from the memory card.
Doing the above will force the device to use the internal Flash memory for Navcore and TTS voices, in future when you decide to update the device remove the SD card prior to connection with the computer and you won't fall in to the trap of putting the software on the card instead of where it should be (its an easy mistake to make when using Home though - one of the many reasons I try not to use it) - Mike |

David
After fiddling around with a few of your suggestions I did get some sound out of it, such as the camera warning sounds. But this was short lived. It did prove though that it must be a software issue.
Mike
I removed the memory card and got sound on startup. My setup was with the application on the device and the maps on the card but reading your replies I think the file system has got out of sorts.
With the card inserted the Navcore shows 8.351
With the card removed it shows 8.350
So it seems it is now running the Navcore from the card. I would like to get it back to its earlier state but ultimately, would like to run it all from the card.
A previous post covers this I see. _________________ TT 720 Go

Are you happy with the thread you have found detailing what to do? if not post back with more questions and I will sort out some specific instructions to get your device working as required.
Easy way is to remove the SD card and copy all of its contents to the PC then wipe the card.
Connect the device to TomTom Home (without the card installed) then let home update the application and any other files such as voices that it might want followed by the maps - then use the memory card if you really need to - Mike |

Well, all is working normally again.
I removed the card, connected to TT Home and did an update. Checked that this was the same as on the card ie 8.351
Removed all the loose files on the card and Loquendo TTS folder.
Sound now fully restored.
Thank you Mike. _________________ TT 720 Go

Great news, just a little pointer that might prevent a similar issue, next time you decide to update the Navcore application take the memory card out prior to connection with the PC - Its still too easy to inadvertantly install the application to the memory card which can cause loads of problems - Mike |
