I may be missing something really obvious here...
When driving the many highways and byways of this great land of ours you may often see that such and such road is blocked/congested/delayed after a particular road junction
eg. when travelling south on M5 you may see the overhead matrix signs show "A30, heavy congestion after A382" I use this example as the junction is about 20 miles away from the warning.
If you have a route planned that is taking you along the A30 how can you see if the delay is on your route or not.
Browse Map, Find, Address, Crossing... to use this you have to know the rough location of the roads intersection.
What if you are a stranger and don't know where the roads are?
How do you see if the warning affects you? |

Unfortunately, that's a problem with the messages that the Highways Agency give out. Imagine you're driving without a SatNav, and are in a part of the country that you don't know so well. You see "Delay after A473" (No I don't know where this one is either!). It's utterly pointless unless you know the area well. "Delay after Junc.17" would be so much more use.
I don't think there's an easy way round it. You could try Navigate to ... Address and try entering the M5, but most of the crossings aren't defined well enough.
You could of course use TomTom Traffic in one of it's various guises, but that may or may not have information about the same delay. _________________ Garmin DriveSmart 50 LMT-D |

That's ok if you are on a motorway, not many A roads have junction numbers

but before you can enter a road number you have to give a city/town location
edit to add: I just tried Navigate To, Address, and entered M5 when asked for the city and it then lists all streets with M5 as first part of postcode

That's ok in principle but if no information is given on the traffic display you do not know if the information does not apply to you so not displayed or TT just not updated.
Thanks for your suggestions but I still think you can't get the necessary info using the TT. The "Navigate to " and "Browse Map" sections relating to crossings should not ask for a location I feel |

You need to tap Navigate to, Address, then Crossing or intersection before entering the road number. You then get a list of the intersections on that road to select from. _________________ Anita

That doesn't work for me, Anita??? After Crossing/intersection, mine requires a City and which city is A30/A382 or whatever? (A30 goes from Exeter to Lands End or something).
I see these matrix displays so often and they're really useless - "A5 delay after A473" or something. It really winds me up, because I don't know if I'm going onto the A5, or if I do, whether I'm supposed to be going beyond A473. _________________ Dennis

But even if it DOES say "delay after Junction 15 " or whatever, it is stll REALLY difficult to locate a junction number on the TomTom in order to try to route round it. |

But if you enter a random town that you know of on that road, e.g. Bristol, you can then select the M5 and navigate to any known intersection between Exeter & Birmingham. _________________ Garmin DriveSmart 50 LMT-D |

That appears to work.
I planned a route from Bristol to Redruth (M5, A30)
I then browsed map, Find, Address, Crossing.., and entered Newquay as City (Newquay is about 67 miles south of my imaginary congestion at junction A30/A382), after entering Newquay I could then select the junction of A30/A382 (despite the A382 being nowhere near Newquay) and see that my route did indeed pass through this junction.
This system works provided I use a location on the A30, and that can be found from browsing the map of the route, or entering the name of the last place passed. It didn't work when I tried to enter Taunton obviously as this is not on the A30.
So now I know.. thanks |

For motorways you could always download the poi which shows the entrances and exists and has the motorway junction numbers on them. Not ideal I'll grant you, but better than nothing
