|
|
As a complete newbie to the iphone I'm dead impressed with my 3 gs. The only complaint I could winge about would be the worse signal coverage than my old O2 orbit.
As such, none of the apps I have will give a position read out with out a phone signal, so I was wondering whether it was possible to get a GPS position without a phone signal, ie in flight mode |

You should not need a phone signal to acquire a GPS fix? Airplane Mode disables Phone/WiFi/GPS.
My 3GS will happily acquire even when the phone signal is poor or non-existent. _________________ Darren Griffin |

OK thanks, but on what aps do you aquire your fix when there is no phone signal. For instance, if I use the compass aps in a no signal area it won't give a correct lat long. I realize that anything requiring a map download won't work.

GPS is OFF in Airplane Mode so no app will give you a fix. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Any app that uses GPS should work when no phone signal is available?
I have Navigon and MotionX, both of them work fine as I was playing with them in my local pub garden last week. Zero phone signal there. _________________ Darren Griffin |

OK thanks, I'll get Motionx, Navigon looks a bit expensive. |

MotionX is a different app entirely to Navigon.
There is a MotionX Lite that is Free, grab that for testing purposes. MotionX is not a navigation app in case you thought it was?
