|
|
I have a TT520 with UK / Ireland map v720 1830
What would I gain by updating to latest map £52
Should my existing map still recieve corrections--- it seems not to

Mapshares normally are received for a specific map version for one year after installation. _________________ David |

By updating to the latest v8 maps and software, you would get extended IQ routing (takes time of day into account, not just day of week) and Advanced Lane Guidance/Reality view at junctions.
I don't think either of those worked on v7 maps.
Can any guru remember exactly when IQ routing Mk1, IQ routing Mk2 and ALG appeared? |

No guru here but I think IQ1 was available with map version 800 and IQ2 appeared with 815 _________________ David |

Thanks dhn.
Did ALG come in at the same time as IQv1?
Nedsez.....
Don't forget to check the one-year "Map Update Service". It usually ends up a MUCH better deal than buying a single map. |

And you will get all the benefits (bugs) of Navcore 8.
Do some research on problems with 8.300, 8.301, 8.302, 8.350 and 8.351 before taking the plunge - plenty of very long threads on here about stuttering, slow screen refresh etc.
You may want to wait a while until the next Navcore release, plus we are about a month or so in to the 8.300 maps so there should be another due about August time. |

In some countries, Andy. US, yes. UK, yes. Canada still does not have ALG, even with map 830. _________________ David |

Thanks, I was also pondering an upgrade. I hadn't realised that I would be getting the v8 Map.
Does all this effectively upgrade my 520 into a 530?
TIA,

If you update the software to v8, then when you buy a map you will be offered the v8 versions.
The hardware of the 520 anf 530 is identical apart from the different colour bezel, so effectively, "yes". |

I updated a work mates 520 earlier today, its never been near a computer and he had no idea what to do, bear in mind this device has been used on a regular basis and is 18 months old!
This is what happened:
1/ Create an account using TomTom Home (with an e-mail address that doesn't exist, it just needs to be in the right format anything@anything.co.uk as an example)
2/ Update the device to the latest software which took two attempts before the latest application was installed.
3/ I tried the Latest Map Gaurantee and what a surprise, it downloaded and installed the latest v830 map.
Gave the unit back to the chap at work who was expecting to have to pay around £30 for a new map, all free of charge, perhaps the Home software isn't as bad as I make it out to be
Please note the above isn't a method to get free maps as you can only have one single device logged against any single e-mail address, the fact the map was offered for free is beyond me (as it shouldn't have been due to the far older than 28 days from initial use) - Mike |

Maybe TomTom saw your rant posted here regarding Home some time back and somehow knew it was you using the application and got scared?

|
|
I've got an old TT One XL. with a western europe 1gb map version 710.1561 which came with it.
if i upgrade my map will i get the IQ routes and the new motorway junction views? and will they work on my XL?
i believe that i have to buy the new map and then the upgrade package for a year as well, which doubles the price.
I am still getting map updates for my old v7 map anyway so is it worth it?
I am also wondering what you get with the 2gb version of the western europe map. it costs a tenner more and i have my 1gb map on a 2gb memory card in my one xl already because i was playing with extra voices etc etc.
so many questions! |

The One XL doesn't support IQ Routes, you would need one of the newer XL IQ devices to be able to use this feature - inadequate memory on the One XL is why I don't think its been made available as an upgrade as the hardware simply isn't up to the calculations required - Mike |

Is it usual for the Favourites to be cleared out after the Upgrade? Mine all seem to have vanished...
TIA,
