The reason I'm asking about Audio CD is i want to be sure the CD laser is working OK. If the unit won't play an Audio CD it probably won't read any CD.
DVDs are read with a different laser.
I think you need to talk to Kenwood first.

You have to put the unit into NAV Mode and then insert the CD. Can you confirm you are doing this?
Have you tried burning the POI.GPI file to a DVD instead? |

Excellent. For the benefit of others do you know where you went wrong at all?
Sound Alerts depend on the unit supporting Proximity Alerts. I can't see anything in the manual. I'll have a look through the forum.... |

It appears the Kenwood units don't support 3rd party alerts for the database however you might have to look through the options to see if there is a built in Proximity Alert that might not be switched on. |

Thanks but i am now sick of searching maybe next week, just wish i knew kenwood doesnt support the voice alerts i dont think i would of even subscribed for speed cameras.
What is the point of having a speed camera alert if you dont get a sound alert your eyes are on the road not on the satnav and with mine just giving a visual alert and not a sound alert i am now a little disapointed no miss statement very disapointed.
Just wish i could give the speed cameras some sort of alert. |

That's the point. It should give alerts but just can't use any 3rd party ones. I'm sure this is just a simple setting somewhere...
OR
Were you over the speed limit when you went on a test drive earlier? Some Garmin units don't sound alerts unless you are over the speed limit as you approach. Maybe that's why you didn't get an alert. |

Hi,
how did you rectify the issues you were having?
There will be a lot of people on here with the same issue who would really benefit from any help you can offer, me included |

I've been in contact with Kenwood. They have replied:
Quote: | Attached is slightly different version of instructions for the DNX7240BT and DNX9240BT.
These models require a slightly different folder structure on the CD:
garmin/poi/poi.gpi rather than garmin/poi.gpi
I wasn’t aware the DNX5240/BT was different from DNX5220/BT; I’ll check this out and let you know. |
I'll check the instructions but for anyone having an issue, can you try the folder structure suggested above? As I don't have a Kenwood it all gets very confusing for us here! _________________ Darren Griffin |
