I have the730 Go which works quite well. The Tmc Connects ok But I am confused. I see on the right of the screen ifo about say delay in 10mins. Unlike a Navman I used to have it doesn't warn of any bottle necks and suggest a different route. Should it and what sort of messages should I receive on it?
Thanks |

you sure it should give miles just below the traffic icon and the 10 minutes is how long the delay will be and with tmc it is hit and miss ie sometimes it's wise to take another route and sometimes it's wise to carry on _________________ TomTom 5001 |

It will suggest another route when it can find one that is shorter than going through the delay. In other words if you faced a 10 minutes delay on the motorway but the alternative was 15 minutes long it won't suggest it. |

The info displayed depends on the actual delay. There are several different icons shown to indicate things like congestion/bottleneck (a sort of queueing icon of two cars), lane closures (two lanes and a third with a cross), accident (upside down car) and so forth - one of our clever gurus might come along soon and give you a link to a page full of the various ones. The first significant delay may also have a flag with the length of the delay (10 mins).
Do bear in mind that Traffic info is only as good as the system operating it - it requires somebody to note and submit details, somebody to translate it into a format for broadcasting to our devices and somebody to broadcast it. That all takes time, so a new delay will not appear until all that has happened - personally I always think it must take at least half an hour, probably longer. The same timescale will apply to removing a traffic warning.
I fear I belong to the school of thought which treats traffic information as highly suspect. Other people think it's great. Experience will persuade you to one view or the other. _________________ Dennis

Try this then:

(I wonder why they've used a picture of a rabbit with a tray on it's head for "Slip road closed"?) |
