It will hopefully not have escaped your notice that PocketGPSWorld has had a makeover.
Our brand has remained basically unchanged since we launched 7 years ago. We had a small makeover a few years back but we were long overdue for a complete change.
This time around we chose to employ brand professionals to come up with a fresh, new, modern logo that we can use across all our operations and the globe-orbit is the result.
With the theme of satellites orbiting the globe and icons that represent some of the key areas and technologies that we cover it meets the brief and we like it.
We've already implemented the changeover on the site with a tweak of the colour schemes and a 3D effect for the page (you may need to maximise your browser window to see the 3D shadow).
As we have had the old 'look' for so long it may take time before all of you warm to it but its fresh, modern and given the debates that ensued in settling on this one, its here to stay for at least the next 7 years! _________________ Darren Griffin |

What IE8 not complying with standards? Surely not????
Seriously though, what happens if you switch IE8 to IE7 compatibility mode? We haven't changed the code behind those menus so this is an IE8 bug. _________________ Darren Griffin |

IE8 in Compatibility Mode works fine on all menus. _________________ Ric - TomTom 520 DEAD - Passed to the great traffic jam in the sky. Now using Maps & Waze on Samsung Galaxy S4 + CamerAlert of course! |

yep, it's an ie8 bug - it did it before we changed anything. MS are good enough at breaking the internet themselves - we didn;t need to do it for them!

FF on a Mac, and it is loading a lot quicker.
Have noticed that there are 2/3 frames come in from the side as it loads, but it is quicker than before.

I really like the look of the new site.
I did find that the DOCTYPE quoted in the HTML for the site is XHTML 1.0 Transitional, however the home page HTML fails W3C validation. ( See: http://validator.w3.org/ ).
Going through the code for the site and correcting the errors reported by the validator, although a time consuming task, will ensure that the site is displayed correctly by the widest number of devices that adhere to the XHTML rules your HTML is claiming to follow.
It may display correctly in most browsers that are forgiving of the errors, but I'm not sure what would happen on devices like screen readers for the hard of sight etc. _________________ Jules

Hi
I have exactly the same problem with the IE8 as well, at least I am not the only one and I am not imagining it.
Oh yes I forgot to say love the look of the new site, well done.

For those who can't find the compatibility mode in IE8, (I spent ages looking for it. Doh ) it's the button that looks a bit like a torn page, between the adress bar and the refresh button at the top of the IE page.
Note for designer:- In IE8 the page that displays the thread is a little bit wider than the 'shadow' so covers it up a bit and the New posts page covers it up totally. Both of which detract for the overal super look (This is a statement, not a vote) |
