oops posted this in the wrong area the other day! :(

this old chestnut again, but i believe it to be hardware related this time, socket to be more precise.
it was working, then it was intermittent, then it wasn't.
it would search for a signal, then say it wasn't available.
i have the replacement rdstmc module.

i've jumped through all the tom tom tech support hoops, i must have tried all software from 7481 to 8301, but still no joy.

if i send it back how much am i looking at, as both the sat nav / tmc module are over a year old!
they aren't going to fix this for free are they?! :)

could i open the thing up and bent the contacts?
i have a feeling that's what it is, all that plugging and unplugging:(
are there any continuity check that i could make before doing that any of that? and will i actually be able ti get the thing back together if i take it apart? :)

many thanks for your time.

GaRy:)

Send it back, chances are they'll repair it FOC anyway as it's a known issue and I think the warranty is 2yrs as well?

Or buy the newer mini-USB TMC antenna instead.

thanks for the reply,

would you have a link to said "mini-USB TMC antenna"
the power is currently supplied to the existing mini usb socket on the base of the 720, how does the new device connect in?

regards,

GaRy

Power goes into TMC device USB socket then TMC-USB plug goes into device.

As MrT has said, it plugs into your device via Mini-USB and then your charger plugs into the TMC receiver.

The product can be found on TomTom's site here.

Hi,

I have a similar problem, the black 'O' ring is missing from my 930 after about 6 months of use. I could send it in for repair, but am I right in assuming the USB version would still work.

I gather this is a known problem and obviously a weak point not suitable for being plugged in and out all the time. The USB port would appear to be much more robust.

Any comments?

Ian

You will be fine using the mini USB receiver even with a broken iPOD/ RDS socket, although if you ever think you might want to connect an iPOD to the device then consider getting it fixed - Mike

The product can be found on TomTom's site Here at Amazon for £22.99

Sorry, I've lost my instructions how to put a link in properly. Are they anywhere on the forum please?
