Andy,
Thanks for the advice but the problem is I do not want to connect this device to TT Home as it conflicts with my TT 730T and that is working perfect at the moment.
All the files on my SD card are in yellow folders except one that is named ttn file 15kb _________________ Ron (1):

OK...
If you have only that one file then it's not surprising it won't work at the moment.
Home would be the easiest way to update, not sure why you say it conflicts with your other device. If you have separate TomTom accounts for them both there should be no issue, I run four different machines all on one PC with Home.
But you can do a manual install of the software too
There are some older versions on Oldboy's site HERE
You just unzip the contents and place the files on the TomTom not in any folder.
There are several fuller descriptions of how to do it in this forum, or one I wrote over HERE. |

Thanks Andy, I have done just as you kindly stated and the device now seems to recognise the SD card, however the device is displaying only one page saying 'No maps found.'

That's a good start... hopefully we can do this bit by bit.
Can you now copy the entire folder called "Western Europe" (or whatever region map you have) from the old backup to the card.
Then do the same with the "voices" folder.
See what happens next.... |

Oh no! I think I have a fatal problem.
I have just looked in the saved backup file on my desktop and only the following yellow files are there:-
.Trashes
bin
contacts
ephem
fleetecd
gns
itn
licenses
logging
microbrowser
phone_databse
poi
ppp
programme
raster
script
sounds
statdata
This is really weird as I saved the full contents of the SD card onto my desktop twice and both backup files are not showing the maps
Could they be hidden somewhere
The SD card is the original, not a copy. _________________ Ron (1):

Oh dear...
I've never heard of the map folder being hidden, but as a last resort, check you have Windows Explorer set to show all hidden files and folders (Tools/Folder Options/View tab) |

FWIW (which may not be much.....)
The 830 map in my download folder on my pc has its setting, for whatever reason, as Read Only.
I'm only saying that as RO files sometimes do not copy. But it makes no sense that a map folder would be RO as information has to get written to it....
Anyway, sorry for butting in .......... _________________ David |

Andy,
I am getting scared.
The show hidden files and folders tab is selected under the yellow file 'hidden files and folders' in the option menu.
I am frightened to do anything now without checking with you first, but the check box 'display the contents of the systems folders' is unchecked, and the hide protected operating systems box is also unchecked.
What do you think?

I'm afraid I don't think any of those will make a difference, but as they are only affecting what they show you, there's no harm in changing the settings to show as much as possible.
I guess the next thing to do is an automated "search" of your entire PC (plus any external drives/ USB sticks you might have ever had attached) in the hope of finding a map folder (probably best to just search for the word "Europe" to avoid missing anything due to slightly differing folder names).
If you connect up your 530 it will show you a similar file and folder layout to what should be on the 910. Unfortunately, you won't be able to copy the map from your 530, as the maps are locked to one machine. |

Hi Andy,
Thanks for the advice. Before I run the search for Europe files I just wanted to say that I have retraced the steps I have taken in this thread to make sure I have done everything you have asked. I think I have but have noted that when I downloaded the files that you suggested from Oldboys site, the guidance you gave was there were seven files to be downloaded that would not appear in a yellow folder.
I have just counted them and have found eight. Is one of these causing the problem? The ones I have downloaded and installed into the memory are called:-
libeac.so
readme.txt
system
tomtom.ico
ttsystem
antitheft
data.chk
install.bif
I shall now run a check to search for Europe and get back to you. Thanks for being so patient with me.

Don't worry about the number of files. They will be slightly different with different versions.
To be honest, I don't remember ever saying how many files there would be,. Even in that link to the other forum I can only see a mention about deleting "about half a dozen or more files"
One minor point... From the file names you listed, it looks like you haven't set Windows Explorer to show you the FULL filenames including the three letter extension for all file types.
for example, the file you have called "antitheft" is actually called "antitheft.bmp" but because Windows knows that is a picture file, it HIDES the full name from you.
This isn't terribly important until we get in a situation like this where people are trying to work out what might be wrong at a distance. Every little bit of information helps!
To get Windows to show you the whole truth, do this:
Start either 'My Computer' or 'Windows Explorer' and:
Go to the 'Tools' Menu,
Select 'Folder Options'
Select the 'View' tab
Scroll down the list of entries and UN-tick "Hide extensions for known file types"
(the above is for Windows XP, the process should be pretty similar for Vista) |

Blimey, I think I may have a problem with the PC as the box was already unchecked. I am at my wits end.
I have just ran the check you suggested search for the word 'Europe'
I have loads of hits. It seems to have picked up my current tt 730T (In perfect order) and every other tomtom I have owned. Some are big files some are very small but all seem to have something to do with maps.
I have found quite a number of backups using tt Home, but looking at the date the file was modified I doubt if they are anything to do with my wifes device.
One file seems very big. It is named tomtom/home/downloads/complete/map/western_central_Europe 2GB
There are lots of other files named backup/internal memory.
I am sure my maps are here somewhere. Just havent a clue what to do? _________________ Ron (1):

I suspect that the FOLDER at tomtom/home/downloads/complete/map/western_central_Europe 2GB is the map from your 530, as the 910 would have had the larger version.
I think we might have to admit defeat here, if none of your backups are complete.
All I can suggest is you create a new TomTom account for this 910, connect to Home and see if that can find the map on your PC. If not, bite the bullet and buy a new one.
Unless anyone else has any fresh ideas? |

Andy, it never worked.
Is this really the end of the road for the device, like chucking it in the bin?
Is there something I can buy to make it better again?
I dont know what to say. I just feel sure the maps are somewhere. I know I haven't deleted them. _________________ Ron (1):
