Posted the Classic to Satnav man -- after confirming that it was OK etc.. and got a price..
Posted it last Monday 23rd...!! with a tracking code --
When going to the PO web to follow and track
-- It had only gotten as far as our village post office...
I spoke to the Village Postmaster on Saturday he assured me that it had "gone" but he gave me a form to claim .. [after 11 days from posting]
DUUUUH.. max claim £32 !!!
So just a bit of advice -- always state the value of the goods ---and get that value recorded on the postage slip..
The good news is that I spoke to the Satnav man on the phone this morning and the Classic had been delivered on Saturday !!!! and was being worked on as we spoke..
Checked again with the PO tracking service this morning
-- the Classic was still showing as being at the local village post office.. ??

Up date of the saga...
I should have done this sooner -- sorry -- eventually I rang the Satnavman and he had got the Classic !!! delivered the day previously -- never trust the post office to follow your packages etc!!
He sorted it -- and returned it with the maps and every thing working --
Until I noticed that in the blue spanner section -- it used to have 8 pages -- now only has 7..
Also the automatic shut down - power-saving option was missing..
I got on to Tom-Tom in Holland -- nice bunch - and they got me to down load all the info from my Classic to them..
It turns out that the Version number of the operating system is wrong -- and the one that I have on my classic should only be on a TT ONE V8.xx and the Classic should have V7.xx
And as I had sent it to an independent service person they don't really want to know.
The problem is now that several things just don't work..
The question is -- how do I get rid of V8.xx and get V7.xx so that it will work properly??

Oldboy's link here has a Navcore 7 application for a One series model (which the Classic is, I believe) _________________ David |

BACK UP the system as it is at the moment before you downgrade... just in case it goes from bad to worse! |

not being a wiz at 70 years old -- I prefer some one to do it -- do you think if I sent it back to the satnavman he could sort it?

He might, but would obviously charge for it!
Be brave, it's really not too hard.
Backing up is described beautifully in the FAQs here, and once you've done that, you are safe to play.
Down grading the software is just a matter of removing all the files on the TT that are NOT in a folder (leaving the folders alone) and replacing them with the ones that are in the download link dnh gave above.
Otherwise, there may be someone on here twho is local to Kettering and could help? |

And given they cocked it up in the first place I'd be loathe to let them charge you to fix their mistakes.
Have a go, if all else fails you can send it to me and I'll do it for you free of charge. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Maurice, received your device this morning and have now installed v7.162 on it.
The 'switch off when external power lost' option is now present but there are only 7 pages under 'change preferences'.
What other things were not working so I may check all is well before returning to you?
I also note that you have two Western Europe maps installed although only one is activated? You have Western_Europe_1GB which works and you also have Western-and_central_Europe which is not? _________________ Darren Griffin |

I only need the one that works to get me around France and Spain on holiday
It came back with the other larger one on I thought it had the 1GB previously.
Thanks for your very kind help - more than grateful --
I didn't think I needed two lots of the same map..
[ I presume they are they the same ?]
The only real thing that I had noticed from the menus was the shut down when loss of power etc..
But I was sure that there was 8 pages -- dementia again..
should the version be 7.903.?

They are two very different maps hence my query. One is a slimmed down Western Europe map that consumes only 1Gb of space, the other is a Western AND Eastern Europe map that is almost twice the size. I wasn't sure if you had installed this at some point in the past or if SatNavman had and if so, why? _________________ Darren Griffin |

the bigger one would be better [?] if it works but normally they only have a small memory and as this has a 4GB SD-card in probably it was thought to put the biggest map ..
what do you think? _________________ Happy to meet -- Sorry to part -- Happy to meet again |

The bigger one isn't activated hence my query. I can't activate it so I'll leave it where it is.
It's all sealed up and ready to go back to you tomorrow now. _________________ Darren Griffin |
