|
|
Hi, I have a Garmin 205WT with the pocketgps camera database installed.
My only problem is with the red light warnings, they are there with sound but when approaching the offending traffic light a the speed limit icon is displayed not the traffic light icon. Any ideas ? Should this be in the PocketGPSworld database forum ? And has this got anything to do with it, it was a long time ago. http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=11957&highlight=traffic+light+icon |

It sounds like you are using the Speed Zoned Database.
The Speed Limit icon will be displayed for RedSpeed Cameras. These are cameras that double as Speed and RedLight Cameras so the icon warns you of the trigger speed. Normal RedLight camera will display the Traffic Light icon as they don't double as a Speed Camera.
Can you give some locations i can check? You'll need to be fairly specific. |

Although this appears to have been removed on the submission page in the last few days, but may show the problem.
Removal of: Single Direction RedSpeed (ID#34500), Heading: 340, Lat:51.54931, Lon:0.46567 (United Kingdom), Speed:60, [34500] This redlight does not exist, and is not a 60MPH area.
also REDLIGHT:ID#58679@60 at the same location but on other side of railway track _________________ Garmin Nuvi 2589, IPad2, RAC 05' |

Ok the two I past on the way to work are:-
REDLIGHT:9624@50 Heading 8 single direction And
REDLIGHT:8999@40 Heading 10 single direction.
These show the traffic light icon as per the pocketGPSworld database but also advise a speed limit warning of 50 and 40 as per the above locations. with I believe a garmin warning/description.
So do these cameras double as Speed and RedLight Cameras ? Thats a new one to me ! |

I thought the problem was that they showed the speed limit and not the Redlight icon?

If the camera can also double as a speed camera it'll show the speed limit, otherwise if it is a plain ordinary Redlight camera, it'll show the RedLight (Traffic Light) icon. |

Not trying to contradict PaulB, but surely our database calls Redlight cams that double as speed cams 'RedSpeed'. I know that a lot of pure Redlight cams have speed limits attached, so that if they later become a RedSpeed, we have the speed data to hand. As for what warnings you get depends on the Nav software (which is presumably why the OP asked the question). The MioMap 3.2 S/W (Igo based) gives the speed on a Redlight cam (if it has as speed attached) |

As fa as i can see and know, not all Speed Cameras that double as speed cameras are RedSpeed cameras. Otherwise why have entries that are
REDLIGHT:1419@30
and
REDSPEED:3027@30
?
The first is in the REDLIGHT file and the second in the GATSO file. |

REDLIGHT:1419@30 is a REDLIGHT only camera - we just have a record of the speed to a) act as a reminder and b) if it ever changes to a redspeed then we already have the speed
REDPSEED:3027@30 is a KNOWN redlight AND speed camera

Please forgive a TomTom user for butting in but this is what I've learnt from this forum...
The icon shown is based on the category so redlights will show the traffic lights and redspeed (as it's in the 'gatso' categories) will show the speed limit.
As for the alert, I understood that if there's a number in the description, it will show that speed so REDLIGHT:9624@50 will give a 50 warning.
Happy to back down if I'm wrong. _________________ Gerry

Drove pass both camera's with my tomtom and Garmin on this morning and here's an update on the problem for
REDLIGHT:9624@50 Heading 8 single direction And
REDLIGHT:8999@40 Heading 10 single direction.
The garmin 205WT acts as if their REDSPEED cameras however my tomtom 930T warns that they are REDLIGHT. The tomtom is correct and the Garmin is not - Why ? |

Are you sure they warn as redspeed? ie shows the speed limit icon and not the traffic light icon. I would expect you to see the traffic lights.
As for the difference between Garmin and Tomtom, the Garmin is giving you extra info regarding the speed limit at the time (regardless of whether it's set to catch you speeding through a green) where the Tomtom isn't.
Both are "correct". They just interpret the info is slightly different ways. _________________ Gerry

garmin give a speed alert if there is a speed limit in teh actual data for a particular point, tomtom does not. you will have a redlight camera icon but also a speed warning too.
neither are wrong, just different ways of using the same data.

So how does Garmin warn for REDSPEED - it seems to me that its normal REDLIGHT warning incorporates REDSPEED which is incorrect. The camera is either REDLIGHT or REDSPEED. |
