Hi folks,
I've just had delivered from Amazon.co.uk a TomTom One XL - this was ordered and described as a One XL GB Classic - I wanted this particular model (the older V2) for the SD slot and Itinerary planning.
Anyway, when the unit boots up it shows this splash screen...
From what I can read online, the XL-S should be the version which reads street names out? I've used it briefly and it doesn't appear to do this.
Anyone have any views? |

Under voice preferences, can you select a computer voice? _________________ David |

Thanks David - that answers my question perfectly..... it cannot be selected frm within TOMTOM Home as 'your device does not support this'
I guess that it just arrived with the wrong slashscreen loaded into it - unless someone can advise otherwise?
I never have been that lucky!! |

Can you try one other thing?
Can you select a computer voice from within the unit when NOT using Home? In other words, when the unit is undocked? _________________ David |

Yes... You can NEVER select TTS voices while running the TomTom in Home, even on models that do support them.
Out of interest... what is the model number on the bottom? (something like "4N01.002") |

Hi again...
There doesn't appear to be any 'computer voices' available to select from the unit itself - just a couple of English and lots of foreign languages.
As for the model number - it's 4S00.000.2
To be honest - it's already packaged up to go back to Amazon. I'm far from impressed with it - it's almost impossible to see in even moderate daylight, let alone dirtect sunlight onto it... plus it's about 50 yards behind itself and it takes much longer than my One NE to locate the satellites. I'm now looking into other manufacturers!! It's got to be either Garmin or Navman though, right? |

Thanks for the model number...
In my records I had
4S00.000 - TomTom One XL (Europe, with SD card slot and ??? internal memory
So the .2 at he end might be because it is a "re-released" version or maybe even it's a refurbished one! (I had a .2 on a refurbished Go I was sent by TomTom once instead of repairing mine)
You don't remember how much internal memory it had do you? (I'm guessing 1GB?)
Surprised it wasn't as bright as your ONE NE, and if it was always behind your position, it sounds like a pup! |
