Before you read any of the following can you check if you have a memory card inserted to the device, if there is a memory card in the device take it out and boot the machine then check the Navcore version number by tapping the sat strength meter. Is it anything other than 8,350 - if so put the card back in and boot the device to check the version number with the device booting from the card.
I am wondering if this "random" missing voices issue is caused by people installing the new application to the storage card in error, if the new app is on the card and the voices are on the flash memory it might explain why it doesn't work?
Try re-installing the application to the device as a few users on another forum have been reporting this as a fix for the no voice issue, I have no idea why it should do this with some machines but if a simple re-installation can fix the fault its a small price to pay.
Remove the memory card from the TomTom.
Connect device to the PC and use Windows Explorer to view the contents of the drive associated with the TomTom, delete the loose files in the root of the memory. DO NOT DELETE ANY FOLDERS OR FILES WITHIN FOLDERS.
Connect to TomTom Home and get the application to check for updates, this re-install the 8,350 application to your device - Mike

Well I updated yesterday evening and it all went extremely smoothly until HOME said it was restarting the device. I had to reset it before it would restart. The custom curser was gone so I changed it back again, and the volume had dropped from 80% to 25% so I put it up again. All my voices are still there and working.
One really strange thing is that I had the icons I downloaded from somewhere on this site a long time ago (tomtom.ico I think, I don't have the device with me to check) and the one for the internal memory had reverted to the Tomtom hands. So I copied the one from my backup and Explorer asked if I wanted to overwrite it so I said yes but it stayed as the hands. It's not a problem but I wondered why. Tonight I'll try deleting the file and copying the backup one to see if that does it.
I was disapointed that the super new markers only appear on browse map. I thought they were going to appear on the navigation pane to replace the silly little compass which still hasn't been changed in this version. _________________ TT Go Essential

One thing to be aware of is that if you are browsing the contents of the Go through Windows Explorer it will not restart automatically during the update process. Home does not disconnect the device from the computer if something else is accessing it and this prevents the reboot. You will manually need to disconnect it before proceeding. _________________ Drivelux

Despite (or is that In spite of?) reading all the entries here I decided to upgrade my 720 last night. The upgrade went very smoothly - it re-booted by itself without any manual intervention. It did list Kate as a Voice but told me it wasn't supported and wouldn't let me download it. The only 'issue' I have found so far is that the volume has been reduced (about 50%?) - but interestingly not on the line-out as far as I can tell. I still have Kate on my system and it all seems to work as far as I can tell. The volume issue affects POI/camera warnings also - so it would appear to be something they have done to the mixer/amplifier rather than the voices.
Just in case it's important the history on the 720 is : Bought refurbished, upgrade to 8.300 to get 815 mapping. Installed 8.320 to get over stuttering, installed 8.302 (I like to keep to 'official' s/w if possible), now 8.350. _________________ Phil

Having just used my 720 for the first time since the update, I have also notcied that the volume is reduced from previous times - and it is very noticeable. I'm at 100% now and it's a bit lower than the 85% I have always used.
This is the first time I have ever had an issue with volume having bought one of the first 720's.
Will be interesting to see what remedies, if any, there are...
Well I'll be keeping the Navcore 8.204 (as noted below) a while longer.
Although I have since updated maps - this Navcore, designed for the x40 series has given the x20 series the boon of the better icons and pretty flawless performance in all areas except the 'live' services.
It's not broke, so I'm definately not fixing it, especially after what I've read here. _________________ TT Go 920T

Yes i put the version 710 kate voice on, following instructions off here.
Then you will have made a full backup prior to putting the 7,10 voices and Navcore 8,320 on the device as this was the first step in the instructions, simply copy the LoquendoTTS Kate voice folder from the backup to the device if you think its this that is causing problems - Mike
I did Mike but I deleted this about a month after I did the update as it was working fine and my tomtom home wont restore my backup from april.
Looks like I will just follow the instruction s again and put it back to the earlier firmware!

What happens if you delete all the files and folders off your device? Can you just do an update and it reinstalls?

I upgraded my 540 and 730 and both upgraded with no problems at all. Heres what I've found so far
Pro's (540)
Refresh rate appears to be better. Map redrawing appears smoother.
Ability to add/remove Roundabouts on local roads only. This isn't represented graphicly, only audably with directional instructions from what i can see. I have also tried to remove a few roundabouts on A-Class roads and recieved the messsage, "This error will be reported to tomtom, but this roundabnout cannot be corrected for your map version."
TomTom Live Sevices has new icon.
Position markers on map view are now added. They show distance (as the crow flys) to destination, distance to home, and distance to current position. Tapping them alows you to jump to that position. I like this.
HD Traffic can now be viewed in Home when selecting "Oporate my Device"
Con's (540)
GPS Fix's appear more difficult to aquire. I used to get a fix quite easly sitting at my desk, not I don't. Take the device to the window and it can get a fix, just.
Route calculation appears slower.
Tripmaster no longer loads.
This is all that I have noticed so far. But so far so good.
Does anyone know if it automaticly recalculates your origional route in the background if your choose an alternitive route due to traffic? Particularly if the traffic situation has changed?[/b][/i] _________________ Graeme Bennett

I have reverted back to the previous Navcore from backup because:
1. Every time I connect to HOME it tells me that there is an Application Update required. I click OK and all it does is tell me that Kate and Simon will not work. They both do.
2. The volume is 50% lower than before
3. Operate My Go does not work
4 No updated dll is offered when trying to Operate my Go
5 Route planning is much slower than the previous version
6. Tripmaster v2.2 no longer works
7. GPS fix is a lot slower than with 8.302 and in fact, I can't get a fix inside the house where I could get 4 - 5 satellites before.
8. Wireless connection via a Nokia N82 (I know - not on the compatibility list) or a Nokia N73 (On the list) does not work - mind you it stopped several weeks after I upgraded to 8.302, so that's not really an 8.35 issue.
Various suggestions have been made by a number of people above, such as disconnect and reconnect to the pc and try HOME again, Pin Reset and connect again and these have been tried, to no avail.
I have Navcore 8.302 and UK & ROI v825.2157 on the SD Card (Which is where I put the updtae to 8.35) and Navecore 7.221 with UK & ROI map v715.1703 on the Internal Memory, so I am going to back both up again tonight through Windows and then put 8.302/825 on the Internal Memory and see if the update is offered by HOME and then see what happens.
No doubt this thread will continue for some time, so I will come back if I have any luck. Not changing signature yet! _________________ Ric - TomTom 520 DEAD - Passed to the great traffic jam in the sky. Now using Maps & Waze on Samsung Galaxy S4 + CamerAlert of course!

Graham, I think that would involve Tom Tom fixing some of the broken stuff rather than adding new features and that goes against TT company policy!
Flippant comments aside, I'd hope very much for this issue to be addressed too but it doesn't mention it in the release notes so I doubt it's any different. And unless they tell you that route recalculation has changed it's a longwinded process to prove and involves an incident en-route which is hardly something you can pre-arrange.
I've yet to use the new software in anger but I'm travelling back up to N.Yorks from London tonight so will have some insight. However I have tested the issues I have with Tom Tom jukebox and several other bits but they seem un-rectified. _________________ Tom Tom GO 720

Yes - I notice this, but I route it through my line in on the radio - haven't had to adjust the volume on this though - so it would appear to be the same level on the line-out.

Mine was downloading a DLL - but then my broadband connection terminated - we are at the end of a very long piece of string with 0.5Mbps as the best speed!

Not tried a long route yet - but short routes (10-12 miles) work at the same speed for me.

6. Tripmaster v2.2 no longer works
Don't use this - but I do run an app (forgotten name) that displays altitude at the top LHS side of screen - this is still working

Never had much of a fix in the house - but hardly suprising - it's a relatively new barn conversion and all the walls and ceiling/roof space are lined with foil backed plaster board - portable radios struggle to get a signal also. It was it's normal fix in under 30 secs in the car though.
