I too have now purchased an Iwalk 5400. There was not a mini-USB connector in the pack. Can I use any USB - miniUSB cable I happen to have? Also, am I alone in not getting this connector, or did other purchasers also not receive it?

| I use a standard USB to mini USB lead as those addaptors tend to AWOL after a while, its also one less connection between the charger pack and the device - I cannot remember if the mini USB addaptor was supplied with mine - Mike |

Apologies for my iWalk mini-USB connector question. I now find that the included Motorola connector does in fact fit the Active 10 mini-USB socket. I had been trying to test it in another 'mini-USB' device but the socket was different. I clearly don't know my sockets!
However, I agree with Mike that the connector tip could easily disappear into the depths of a rucksack, and a standard cable will be a more robust item to carry on walks.

I'm also using a standard mini to normal USB lead.
I took the Iwalk to Scotland over the weekend, more to play with the new gadget than anything, but was extremely satisfied to be able to charge my wife's mobile just when we really needed it as well as charging the Satmap, again just when it came in really handy. Shame it won't do my son's DS though.
Interestingly the aircraft cabin staff recognised the Satmap. There was no problem using it except on take-off when they asked me to switch it off (not sure why). The Satmap kept me and my boy totally absorbed for the 45 min flight, watching speed, altitude (which matched the captain's figures) as well as spotting features we could see were coming up. |

It's just that there may be a potential hazard due to electronic/RF interference and Take Off and Landing are considered to be the most hazardous part of the flight (less room for manoeuver). In practice the hazard is very limited with receiver only equipment as the emitted interference is very low level - but better safe than sorry.

Are you using the World Base Map upgrade? Otherwise I assume you will get speed & altitude but would not see any features as I have used the Active 10 abroad without the upgrade and got a blank screen.

Hi John - the reason the flight was 45 min was that it was to sunny Glasgow! I haven't got the world base map. I was using the Central GB 1:50k card & we spotted road shapes and water & coastal features mostly eg Mersey estuary. We flew right over Lockerbie. Also interesting to watch the flightpath dots come right in to the centre of the runway on the map, as we came in to land. Going there the top speed was given as 440 mph, returning it was 550 mph. On the way there we cruised at 24000ft, 27000ft return. All sorts to keep us amused for the 45 minutes.
