It will be a lot easier to help, if you can tell us what you were trying to do when you got the error message |

Hi Andy,
I plugged the Tom Tom into a USB port and switched it on. Everything just happened automatically from there. I also received the message when I tried to install the QuickFix download, |

So.. you have Home installed presumably, and this error message is coming from that.
From the line "Directory "N:\Data from Tom Tom" it looks like you have got Home pointing to a network drive, is that right?
Have you changed the default directories Home stores to?
Have you been using Home successfully before?
What else have you changed recently? |

Not sure what you mean by Home pointing to a network drive, it is installed on the C drive.
I opened Home and was told there was an update available so I downloaded and installed it. I had no trouble with the previous version and I haven't changed anything lately, in fact I haven't used Tom Tom Home for a few months.
I think maybe the best thing to do is use restore and go back to the previous version!
Also with this latest version I cannot install my speed camera updates |

You can pick your folder locations in Home with Tools/Preferences/Folder Preferences. Normally it would be something like C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\TomTom\HOME\Downloads for all of them. It just seemed odd there was a message about the "N" drive which is normally a network drive.
Thee have been reports of problems on Vista when people have moved their "My Documents" folder from the normal location, hence "dhn's" question.
Maybe a restore would be the easiest solution! |

A complete shot in the dark (though it has been the problem for a few ...)
Wonder whether the OP has dot net framework installed on the machine. I know the error message makes no reference but who knows .. _________________ David |

Good thought.
To be clear, sapins, he means you NEED the Microsoft dotnet framework installed on your machine for Home to work properly.
I've seen a very similar error message in a post on the "other" forum HERE, but the poster never replied.
Going back to my question about the "N" drive, in that other example it refers to th "G" drive, which is more likely to be the TomTom itself when connected via USB. Is that the case for you, sapins, the TomTom is installing as drive N? |

If you want to try installing .net support on the PC you can download it for free by clicking Here its certainly worth trying with this type of error - Mike |

I have just checked and I have the following dot net framework entries in Control Panel.
Dot net Framework 2.0 service pack 2 with 10 sub entries. dot net framework 3.0 with 11 sub entries and dot net framework 3.5 service pack 1 with 2 sub entries.
All of these entries were installed on the same date. 14-03-2009.
Andy_P, Tom Tom is shown as the "M" drive when connected to the computer. I do have an external drive which shows as "N" when I use it. |

Did you check those folder preferences settings in Home?
Maybe you had that external drive connected once before and Home somehow got set to store stuff to it temporarily, and now if you use Home with it disconnected it fails?
Even if those folder paths don't mention it, try using Home again, this time with that external drive connected. |

Andy_P, sorry for the delay, I installed a new graphics card and disturbed the usb card, could not connect the Tom Tom, You were quite right though, I connected the external drive and there was no error message so thank you for your help.
Now the only thing I have to figure out is how to install the speed camera updates, it's not the same as the previous version.
My thanks to all who helped me with this problem, very much appreciated.
Dave.
Sorted out the Speed Camera install problem |
