On most roads where mobile camera vans work, there are always permanent warning signs, I understand, these are a legal requirement.
First question, at what intervals do they need to be repeated on say a 5 mile stretch where there could be a likely hood of a mobile camera?
And secondly, where a mobile has been set up on a stretch of road without any fixed warning signs, how far back should the temporary sign be placed?
I understand that this is a legal requirement for a temporary sign to be on view!

hi and welcome. i don;t think it is a LEGAL requirement, i think it is a GUIDELINE - I.e. it is recommended but not a necessity... that's my understanding anyway!

Not a legal requirement as MaFt says already, but you will have passed one somewhere along the way (maybe at the entrance to the County even!). Plus you will probably notice that the mobile vans themselves have a camera warning sign painted on them somewhere. If you are asking in the hope of getting off, you're on a loser!

No, its not me, but a car club I belong to who's members a couple of weeks ago think they may have got caught. I pose the question as a couple of days ago on Hayling Island where I live, the camera van set up along the sea front, and placed a temporary sign a good 500 yards before his van. So, is he the exception or as I said, are they perhaps required by law? |

They are NOT required by law. And as for distance, whether 50 or 500 yards doesn't much matter - I've heard that the speed camera has a range of 1,000 yards on a clear sighting, so where would a warning be placed? In advance of the trapping range, I'd say - the theory statement is they are intended to deter speeding, not much point in warning in less than the distance he can see.

If it was a couple of weeks ago, they would have heard about it by now if they have been caught.
Correct me if im wrong, but I only `sweat` upto 14 days after !

A notice of intended prosecution, specifying the nature of the offence and the time and place where it is alleged to have been committed, must be served on the offender, or the registered keeper of the vehicle at the time of the offence, within 14 days of the offence.
Not including Weekends or Public Holidays, Postal Strikes ect. The NIP (Notice of Intending Presecution) can be sent on the 14th Day from their office, So if your not holding your breath, I`d give it atleast 3 Weeks of working Days, before you take a fresh gulp of Air? 
To Re-cap: They should serve the NIP within 14 days = Job Done. You may receive the NIP after the 14 Days = Ouch!
Word of mouth from Traffic cop says he can issue a NIP after 14 days in certain circumstances, what they are, he never said?

near a school entrance
anywhere you would prevent access for Emergency Services
at or near a bus stop or taxi rank
on the approach to a level crossing
opposite or within 10 metres (32 feet) of a junction, except in an authorised parking space
near the brow of a hill or hump bridge
opposite a traffic island or (if this would cause an obstruction) another parked vehicle
where you would force other traffic to enter a tram lane
where the kerb has been lowered to help wheelchair users
in front of an entrance to a property
on a bend.

On the subject, I've seen it quoted in response to complaints against SCP's double parking, parking on verges etc that they can claim exemption on the grounds of operational necessity. Beggars belief that a service that operates supposedly to increase safety can park in locations that clearly increase the danger to other road users!
