|
|
Hey all,
Over the weekend when I was using the TT during a Phone Call, it kept continuously crashing and resetting.
Bit annoying when you trying to speak to someone and this happened 3 or 4 times.
It would be ok for the first few minutes then it would almost 'stutter' like a stuck CD then reset itself.
I've not really had any problems with mine, maybe reset itself once or twice but other than that fine.
I did reset it with the 'Paperclip' but still no difference when in a call.
Any idea's?

It's a known bug (at least, it's well known on this site, but TomTom don't seem to know about it despite many people telling them!!). I exchanged 7 GO720s and returned a 730 for this fault and it's still not sorted in the x40 range either, which is a shame, because I'd love a 940, but I MUST have workable hands free!!
I'm pushed for time just now so I can't look up all the references for you to try some "cures". It is possible to get it a bit cured - we haven't yet found a complete one, mine has started doing it again after a couple of months.
When Andy Vaughan sees this I'm sure he'll find all the links for you, if not I will, but later today. Make sure you have Windows Explorer backups before you do any messing. Cross refences include "clearflash" and "gnsdata".
Sorry to keep you waiting. _________________ Dennis

Shane...
My G0 520 has'nt crashed yet in the manner you explain although Dennis says its a know bug! What is a problem for mine is that each time it does connect to my phone, I seem to have to go through a full setup procedure and `Down load` the Address book each time. I would have thought the TT GO 520 could hold this information for me. The Go 520 is Password locked, so I`m not worried about the data being on the device.
I`'' watch this thread, and I have the latest updates. _________________ Device:TOMTOM START 52 & SNOOPER 3ZERO

As I seem to have been nominated the hands free crashing expert try the following:
Do a full Windows Explorer Backup of your device first - not via HOME.
Delete the pairing on both your phone and your TomTom.
Delete all of the files in the ppp folder on the TT - they will be recreated automatically.
Run clear flash (available from here) - make sure HOME is not running when you do this.
Re pair the phone.
This will hopefully cure things - for how long is anyones guess though as I have gone through half a dozen x20s and have now officially given up on the TT as a handsfree device and bought an iO Play kit instead.
Other possible culprits are a corrupted gnsdata file - try deleting it if it is present in the gns folder - if you can't delete it then it is corrupt. The only way round this seems to be to format the TT and reload the backup apart from the gnsdata file - it gets created automatically.
Also, make sure you have the latest phone database installed - v15. If you need a copy of this drop me a PM and I will get it to you.

HOME will tell you - look at the 'Show Contents of My Device' and it should tell you if you have the updated Phone Database installed, IIRC you click details and it will give you the version number. It is normally offered as an update automatically.
Another way of telling is going to 'Help - System Information' in HOME when your TT is connected - I think it tells you the database version there as well. |

Hi Andy,
Couldn't find it in Home under the 'Contents of my Go' but did find it under the System Info via Help.
Installed Items = program/Navigator 8.302, phonedb/connect2internet 15,
Thanks, will let you know how I get on over the weekend. |

can I mention that before you backup make sure you have show all hidden files and folders ticked first ,as otherwise it does back everything up ... read though the posts and never saw that _________________ TomTom 5001 |

Ok Thanks for that,
I'll copy it across using Directory Opus, that should flag everything up. |

Sorry, but I'm pretty sure, there have never been any "hidden" files or folders on a TomTom.
I think this belief has come about from some instructions that were written ages ago about setting Windows Explorer to show the three-letter file extensions, so you could see what files you were dealing with.
At the same time it was suggested that you set Explorer to show hidden and system files too, just for general computing purposes, not for anything specific on the TomTom. |

In fact, Andy, I had one member of another forum who had a heck of a time trying to find the sample mp3 files on the unit in order to delete them. It turned out that the files were indeed set to be hidden on his unit.
How or why, I do not know. _________________ David |

Maybe I should have said: "...as supplied"
This Windows PC has a habit of turning whole folders of my stuff to "read only". |

IIRC it is only the sample mp3s that are hidden.
Would have to check my day 0 backup to be sure .... |

My day 1 backup of an antique 720 (number two of seven) has 3 mp3s in the mp3 folder and all are hidden. Forgive my lethargy, I didn't look right through to try finding anything else hidden. _________________ Dennis
