|
|
I've had a look through the postings and can't find what I'm looking for so I'll ask the question directly;
My i3 (software V2.7, map V9) keeps telling me that the map is out of date. So, now that the City Navigator Europe 2009 cd has arrived I tried to install it but with no joy.
Seemingly I don't have the authorisation to update the map, and the garmin web page is insistant that there are no updates available for my unit when the serial number is supplied.
Is this the case? Is it really obsolete after 2.5 years?
If it is do I go for a TomTom (Wales is not a seperate country and you can find any of your POI's, not just the 40ish close to where you are, etc) or fo I go for a Nuvi 265WT because it has the Ecoroute facility and put up with the Wales is a seperate country etc issues?

I had a vague feeling that the Garmin site tells you there is an update only IF you are entitled to a free/reduced price map upgrade (but I might be wrong) - ie the latest map may be ok for your i3, but after 2+ years you have to pay full whack for it to get an unlock code. Might be worth asking the support people. _________________ David

Have you bought the unlock code or simply been supplied with the free DVD?
Unless you have paid for the unlock code there's no much more you can do. Personally I'd put the ~£50 towards a low end model such as Nuvi 200W which will come with the latest maps and have a new guarantee. |

So it's £50 to update it then.
Hmm - Halfords it is then! |

Afraid so. The free update is limited to the first month or so of ownership.
Keep the i3 as a spare. |

i had the same problem. i checked on the garmin website in february and it stated there was a map update available. i ordered the 2009 update disc and it arrived on 25 april. when i have tried to get an unlock code it now says no updates available. i contacted support and they replied with the instructions how to get unlock code ( as if i didnt know after unlocking 3 previous updates!!!! ) of course that didnt work. i then rang support and got told that ths update is now obsolete and they wont issue unlock codes because there is already a 2010 update which by the way is not available to i3 owners ( at present anyway ) because it is a discontinued unit. if thats the case why say there was a 2009 update because its been discontinued for quite a while. hopefully 2010 will become available.
hope that helps with the initil question of why it cant be unlocked or maps updated |
