|
|
The Smartphone version of MM Pocket Navigator is quite limited as far as routes are concerned. In order to get some functionality akin to routes I put together a Windows command line utility which can generate a compatible overlay file from a source GPX file.
I thought I'd share it in case anyone may find it useful.
The file, overlay.ovl, can be copied over to the mobile device, \Application Data\Memory-Map\PocketNavigator5, and can then be viewed as a sequence of marks overlayed on your map of choice.
The utility supports waypoints, routes and tracks within the source GPX file.
I've tested with GPX files created with MM and Mapsource - upto 400 track points were handled succesfully.
Note:- Pocket Navigator must be stopped prior to copying over the overlay file.
The utility, which has a dependency on .net 2.0, can be downloaded here:-

Hi, I've just spent this morning examining overlay.ovl to be able to do exactly this, and now find that you have already done it!
Its amazing that this functionality was never added, since without the abilty to at least import marks, the software is almost useless.
Thnaks for your good work. |

Hi,
Good to hear you've found it useful.
I agree that it's the sort of functionality you'd have expected to be supported as standard.
Cheers |

wow thanks for this utility. i've been driving myself mad trying to find out where to export the overlay file on my motorola q smartphone. you would think pocket navigator would be able to export the proper overlay ovl file but it kept giving me a userdata mmo file.
anyway thanks! it's a shame it doesn't keep the descriptions of the marks but for route planning this does the trick perfectly |

Finally gave up on the Smartphone version, due to the the poor functionality.
Found a nice piece of s/w for Nokias, called SmartComGPS. It hasn't been updated for a while, but works perfectly. You have to make your own maps, however the supplied converter will take Ozi map files, so its fairly easy to convert from other formats. Most importantly it will accept Ozi rte files. |
