Hi folks.
Is there anyone out there can help me?
My traffic sidebar on my TT730T has disappeared and wont return. I have tried re-setting from the underneath of the device, but it still wont load.
I haven't used the traffic bar for about a month so can't be sure when things went wrong. I don't want to go wireless to get traffic, I am happy using the cable.
Any suggestions folks?
Thanks in advance.

I know it sounds stupid, but do check you are plugging it in fully - I suffered the same problem for days and suddenly discovered I wasn't shoving it in far enough. I found it was easy to stop pushing when I reached a shoulder on the plug. As soon as I pushed it completely home it said Traffic receiver connected. Fiddle just a little bit. _________________ Dennis

Thanks for the tip, have tried pushing it in a few more times. It is right into the shoulder, but still nothing. _________________ Ron (1):

You need tests then, as something's beginning to look faulty. Just in passing, is the device still less than a year old and did you get it in a local retailer, in which case a quick visit to test their warranty might be in order (get them to try the following tests).
Have you a mate with a RDS-TMC antenna you could try on your TomTom? Have you a mate with a TomTom you could try your antenna on?
If not, try adding your location to your profile to see if any kindly member lives next door for the testing. _________________ Dennis

Thanks for your help and answers Dennis. I bought the device in December last year at PC World. I still have the receipt. Never guess where I will be going tomorrow?
Thanks again. _________________ Ron (1):

At an outside guess to see MikeB to try your receiver with one of his devices? - Mike |

I have just got back from PC Word Southend (Rochford Airport) where I bought the device in December last year. After queueing for an eternity to speak to The Tech Guy 'Rob,' you could not wish to have met a more of an unhelpful member of staff.
This is not the first time that I have been served by him at the Tech Guys counter. He has no communication skills or customer focus at all.
The advice I was given (on a Bank Holiday Monday and needing the device working for tomorrow) was to phone tomtom up and speak to them. Rob told me he had no knowledge of all about the device. No suggestion of trying another RDS lead in my device or my lead in another device. Couldn't even be bothered to ask one of the other 'Tech guys'
I pointed out that my tomtom was under guarantee from December 2009 and got a lecture from him that 'Nothing in PC world is under guarantee, everything is under warranty.
As I have complained about his attitude before to the Branch Manager I feel furious that he has been so unhelpful again. I wish i could find details of the Branch Area Manager to write to him. My main priority at the moment is getting the RDS to work before my long drive north tomorrow. _________________ Ron (1):

Ah. I don't think Rob would have liked me. He would have given me a complete replacement of both 930 and antenna (or he and the rest of the staff would have missed their buses home). _________________ Dennis

Just remember, your guarantee is with the retailer and NOT the manufacturer. I had a blazing argument regarding my GO 520 just before xmas at my local Currys regarding an inoperative car charger.
The Manager wanted it sent off for repair to Tomtom, even though I had about 2 months earlier spend £200 on the whole unit.
I mentioned that I worked as a home shopping driver and needed it replaced there ant then. Informed him that I work at the nearby Tesco and would mention this farse to all my collegues. He then 'gave me' an old car charger to see if that would work. It was actually brand new.
Point being as DennisN hinted, the warranty/ guarantee is with the compay you have purchased the item from, NOT from the manufacturer of the item. _________________ Tomtom GO 1005 LIVE

|

Everyone.
I just wanted to update every one and publicly thank MikeB for not only inviting me to his house to test my TT with his RDS-TMC cable, but for also loaning me his cable until I have sorted mine out. Just how nice was that!! There was no problem with my device - the cable has developed a fault.
I shall be going back to PC World on Saturday (after returning MikeB's cable with humble thanks) and taking the advice of both DennisN and falkirk81 I will be kicking up a bit of a stink in the store.
Thank you to all who responded to my post. This site and it's members are fantastic and worth every penny of the subscription let alone with all the downloads that are inclusive. As mentioned in the heading, this is a fantastic service. _________________ Ron (1):

Don't bother with Rob and don't bother with Tech Guys. It's a sales warranty, not a repair problem. You need a new cable, not some fool to tell you he doesn't know zip about TomToms. You know enough about TomToms - yours should get a little line up the side when that cable thingy is connected. Your approach is "This antenna doesn't work, here's my receipt, I want a new antenna, please".
If they do have new ones, I'd offer to buy one if it proves that it's not needed (if it shows the antenna doesn't work with yours and still doesn't work with the brand new antenna you've opened up OR shows that your antenna DOES work with a brand new TomTom out of a box).
No need to break the shop up. Simply say you're not going out until they fix it. Carry the phone number of your local paper newsdesk to ring if they threaten to call the rozzers. _________________ Dennis
