I have just purchased a Mitac Mio 168 GPS receiver. I have not yet purchased the software but have ordered this along with a 512mb SD card. my first question is: is there any freeware utility to be able to test out the GPS facility of this device until I can receive my orders?

My second question is: I have installed activesync on my PC. I did, as people recommended, not connect my PDA while installing, but the problem is that when i plug in the PDA using the USB connector to my PC, the PC automatically recognises my mio 168 and starts activesync. this shows that it is connecting. this connection period can go on until the PDA tiumes out after 3 minutes or longer. however, no matter how long i keep the connection period going, it never manages to fully connect. therefore i cant even create a partnership (i am already using the latest version of activesync: 3.71). can anyone help?

many thanks Confused Thumbs Up

Firstly, are you connecting to a USB port on the PC itself? It's not a good idea to connect via a USB hub.

Secondly, on the ActiveSync Client on the desktop, open it and select File | Connection Settings and ensure 'Allow USB Connection with this computer' is enabled.

Then try and Synchronise again.

As for freeware GPS Software, you could always install TomTom's GPS Driver, this will show that the GPS is functioning and give you a Lat/Lon etc. You can download that here.

Thanks for that Darren,
I am as you suggested, connecting the U.S.B.directly to my P.C.
I had also checked the connection settings, and even tried to sync using my Belkin I.R. port that I use for my mobile phones to no avail. Most of the other active sync settings are greyed out.

:D P.S. Thanks for the download I will try this A.S.A.P. :D
