I recently bought nuMaps liftetime for my Nuvi 310D. I had City Navigator Europe NT9 before and had seen the occasional odd route over the years. However, with the 2009 maps I have already been on some rat runs through towns which I never had with NT9. I find this all very odd as surely the routing core software has not changed but the map data has?

I recall a lengthy thread on here about the routing oddities but I must admit I'd never really had much trouble with it until now. I seem to recall some people did a reset of the Nuvi which seemed to improve things. Maybe there is some learning built into the software?

Is this worth doing? How do I do it?!

How do I backup my Favourites before doing this?

Routing changed with the NT 2008 map release and it seemed to try to get you to major roads in the most direct route. I didn't notice much of a change with the 2009 release. However I now have a TT 720 and this seems to create much more 'logical' routes in most cases. No routing algorithm is going to create a perfect route but as long as they get you there - without interestingly scenic detours - it doesn't really matter. If you know the way you would go - then you don't need a satnav!

Although the application didn't change, a lot of the information used by the routing algorithm is contained in the maps - so major map upgrades have the potential to affect route calculations.
