Sadly not. Garmin won't allow third parties to offer directional POIs, instead they retain that for their own database. I guess it has to have some plus points! _________________ Darren Griffin |

But your original post indicated you wanted to buy a speed camera detector AND external antenna (or antenna connection kit) - should you have added they mustn't cost as much as £50? I'm guessing if you can't find £50 up front for a year, you can't find £50 up front.
As to driving enough to make it worthwhile, you also said you "frequently have to go to weird and wonderful places in the UK" where a speed camera detector system would be valuable.
Perhaps you should re-evaluate whether you want something and how much you are prepared to pay for it. _________________ Dennis

Why the slightly confrontational attitude? I can afford whatever I want to; but this is the point, I don't think that £50/year for updates is reasonable compared with other update costs (e.g. this website's database). Everything is relative, and in this case, I don't feel that £50/year is value for money. I am fortunate enough not to have to worry about money, but that does not mean I am happy to spend excessive amounts (compared to other devices and/or update costs).
Once again, relatively speaking, I have already said that I don't feel I drive enough for something which costs £50/year to run, that doesn't mean I don't believe I see the benefits in a device, just question the value for money of £50/year updates. There was no need to guess anything.
I believe that this is quite clear.
My point in my previous post is that it is a salesman's trick to suggest "£50/year is "only" £1 a week" - it's irrelevant, it's £50 no matter how you try to slim it down. |

Not confrontational, merely puzzled. You came asking advice, but seemed to shoot down anything suggested. _________________ Dennis

Not at all, I would suggest you re-read the thread. I came with a number of requirements given my criteria and people made suggestions, I politely said thank you and pointed out the issue of Tomtom not having "auto on" and that the origin B2's update price is excessive (again, relative to other update prices). I haven't gone with any of the possibilities provided as I do not feel that they either achieve what I want or represent value for money. If the origin unit had updates in line with this website (or even Tomtom) it might be a different story. To start suggesting anything to do with my lack of ability to afford things is a bit of a jump and really quite rude - but that's your choice. At least the reality is different. |

pghstochaj Did you find a suitable device at all ? Reason for asking, my son has the same problem. His Vauxhall has a perfectly good SatNav system, but no camera warnings and he would like to find a small device which just gave the warnings and could be updated easily and cost effectively (preferably from pgsw). Or if anyone else has found one, it doesn't need to be hidden from view, providing it is small enough to remove easily. Thanks for all information. |
