Hiya guys,
I have the Medion Gopal 210 satnav which I purchased second hand.
It has 4 cds with it...
Navigator ME 2.0
Microsoft Active Sync 3.7
'MorePOI'
Map material
and an upgrade on a sd card (gopal assistant etc)
I have a few questions if someone would be kind enough to answer...
(1) How do I exit the nav software on the unit? and go back to Windows CE?
Cant find any 'exit' button etc
(2) Considering the hardware, what version of windows mobile can i put on it that would run smooth? (I have a Dell Axim x51v with WM 6 classic!)
(3) How do I change the shortcut or startup (that loads the nav software everytime its switched on) to something else (another app maybe) or just have windows and select what i want to run?
There seems to be small 'desktop' files in many folders (windows/startup, Windows/system etc etc) but I cant edit them when I'm in sync (via active sync). The only way I can look at these files (and presumably any other) is to copy the file to PC and edit there.
(4) When I use it out in the car, I hear no sounds even though the 'device' volume is set high.
(5) Ive run this newer Gopal software from the spare card it came with and installed a newer version onto another card but the normal version is always loaded (Relates to question 1 & 3! :-))
Most of my familiarity on anything this small is with my Dell x51v with WM6 (hence why I already had ActiveSync installed)
Any help/links would be appreciated

I don't think you can use the device for any other software / gps program.
Medion will have locked the Windows CE os, and also cut it down to work with their own software only.
I don't know your system but Medion gps software used to be a version of Navigon. Not that will help much
Others may know different |

Seems some have been successful in getting Tomtom running on their gopal 210 and I already have it on my axim (assuming it's compatible with the units OS) |

Unfortunately, I gonna have to confirm pocketgps's reply. Medion ahve completely gutted the Win CE on this unit so you cannot run much alse aprt from their own software. I have heard also of people geting TomTom to run on them but have heard reports of massive TTFF times.
The only real option for this device is to purchase the Upgrade DVD from Medion (£99 when I got it). This then gives you options to exit to WIn CE but there ain't much point cos everthing I have tried to run on mine has not worked dut the O/S being cut to the bare bones.
This is at the bottom end of the scale, and a basic budget device. As a basic SatNav it's not bad but I'm afraid that's all this device will ever be capable of!!

Okay Fair enough. I do have Tomtom running on a PDA (Axim x51v) despite the mess of cables etc so maybe best to leave the 210 as it is.
It only cost me £21 all in so cant complain :-)
Thanks for the advice guys

Another query If I may.
I have Medion GoPal Navigator 4 (just updated) but when using the satnav in the car, cannot hear any voices telling which way and how many metres etc etc
The map updates fine when moving so no problem there, just cant hear no voices.
Ive checked Audio on the gopal and everything is set high! (inc speech, voices)
Are the voices kept in a different place??

The voice files on my Medion are in the following directory:
My Flash Disk / navigation / RES / GB / AUDIO / (then 89 .wav files) |

That explains it..all I have is...
'My Flash Disk / navigation / RES / GB /HelpLang.skn'
And I cant see anything on the 'Gopal' assistant about adding voices (you shouldnt have to!) when running the assistant.
I excluded the 'dialer' and 'travel guide' in the gopal installation
So where are my voice files? |

Hello,
I have zipped up the voice files of my Medion. I don't know if they will work with your unit.
Create a folder called AUDIO
Then unzip the voice files to that folder. Copy the folder to your unit in the directory as my previous post.
See if it works
Link to files now removed by pocketgps

Thanks for that..much appreciated
Created the DIR called audio, uncompressed the zip file, placed all wav files in the 'audio' folder
Still nothing!:-(
I can hear the clicks when I select a button, I can hear a MP3 etc etc but no voice navigation???
How strange |

Now you have the voice files on the unit, can you try a soft reset to see if that picks up the voice files.
Or perhaps even a hard reset if you are not going to loose your favourites.
You may need to try and find some one who has the same unit software. Think because mine uses a newer version software, each voice file may have a different name, so your units mapping is not calling the correct file names.
Just looking at a very early Medion I have there is only one voice file called: english_sound.SFS which is about 2MB in size.
So it would appear that each version uses its own type of voice files.
You could try emailing Medion and say that your unit got wiped. See if they can send you the software or can it be downloaded from them.
That's about all I can do. |
