My apologies to the mods for slightly changing the direction of the thread, but it was unintentional. Just that the way TT handles LMG is a pet peeve of mine. I must run into 2 dozen posts every week from new owners having problems with the feature and for the life of me can't imagine why it remains so undependable. Almost seems intentional if I didn't know better.(?) Quite easy to buy a new map, much harder to get what's promised using LMG. _________________ Garmin 1695 / 255 / 760 w/MSN - Droid w/Google nav + Navigon - Navigon 8100T - Dakota10 - GPSMap76C - GeoMate Jr. |

I looked on TomTom's website today, and under the question:
How much does the TomTom Map Update Service cost?
I see the text.....
Note: the personal quotation is only a quotation for the map currently selected on your device.
I *know* I'm not going to get a free NA map through map update, but I should get one through LMG, gonna get in contact - might as well get *1* freebie

Update:
Had a response from TomTom support...
Dear John,
Thank you for contacting TomTom Customer Support
Your reference for your query is 090312-00xxxx.
The map update service is only for the western Europe map.
There is no map update service available at present for the US maps
If you use the LMG ( latest map guarantee) you should be offered a one off update of the US map
Now I've just gotta respond and at least tell them the whole point of email was because I couldn't get the NA map through LMG *or* the Map Update Service |

Now there is. I've learned that no "official" press release is going to made until later, but the core details are similar to the European subscription. If currently using the 8.15 NA map it looks like about $14 for 8.25, then $48 for one-year/4 quarters. _________________ Garmin 1695 / 255 / 760 w/MSN - Droid w/Google nav + Navigon - Navigon 8100T - Dakota10 - GPSMap76C - GeoMate Jr. |

I guess I should be more clear that it's available now, as of about an hour ago. _________________ Garmin 1695 / 255 / 760 w/MSN - Droid w/Google nav + Navigon - Navigon 8100T - Dakota10 - GPSMap76C - GeoMate Jr. |

Well after an email or three, and sending in a copy of my purchase receipt, they have said they are going to prime my account to receive NA 8.25
Once they've done that, then I'll consider messing about and seeing if I can get the Map Update service for North America, but I think we've proved conclusively that anybody who bought the Map Update service initially only did so for one map, and that you'll have to pay for 2 services if you want your device to be bang up to date on absolutely everything.
John.
PS I'd just like to take this opportunity to welcome myself to the TomTom forums, used to lurk on the CoPilot forums but I finally got peeved with CPL7 enough to go and buy myself a 940, even though previous I used to be be in the TomTom hater's club |
