Hello,
I have NAVMAN Model No.: N189(that is written on its back). I have found that the model is F25.
It has no SD slot, only 1gb built in memory. When connected to PC it is recognized like "USB mass storage"

It was working fine until I decided to upload GARMIN on it. I replaced startup.exe(the file that navigation initialy runs) with garmin.exe(renamed as startup.exe). After reset the navigation hangs at the first screen and stays there until the batery is down. When connected to PC it is not recognized at all. If the batery goes empty and the navigation shutdown itself I plug the USB cable and PC recognizred it like USB mass storage but with error 10(divece can not start)

PLEASE HELP!

Whatever you were trying to do, you can't install Garmin software on to it!

If you have a backup of the file(s) you overwrote and can get to the point where you can see the file system then you need to replace the original files. If you can't I have to tell you it is likely you have bricked it.

Only if you can mount the device and access it from your computer. If you can't there isn't much you can do Crying or Very sad

The F20/ F30 series had a TransFlash memory card fitted internally, this is/ was removable so you could put it in a card reader to access the data. I am not too sure if this applies to the F25 though - Mike

With devices without SD card slot there's nothing you can do if it won't connect to PC.

I have the skils and the tools to change the built in memory chip. What will happen if I change the chip with clean one? Will I be able to install winCE on it?

I wouldn't count on it. Navman lock the maps to a particular serial number - either on the device or on an SD card. It's possible that they use the internal cards serial number.

If posisble, I would try to restore the file on the existing memory card, but that would involve removig it, installing it into something and replacing it - my experiance with electronics is you would need to be pretty good with a very good desoldering station to do this reliably.

I would see what Navman has to say, although I don't know I would tell them it was Garmin softwrae I was trying to install:grin:

Yes, thats a better idea. I will try to put the memory chip on some reader(like MP3 player or flash-mamery) and then resotre its original files. Hope it will work!

Thanks!

from the french website you can purchase the F15/F25 connectivity kit so if you can get a PC to recignise the device you could atleast relaod the data.

Why buy a Navman and load garmin software on it? Why not buy a garmin in the first place?

So Navman support is Censored Evil or Very Mad because they can't help you restore second hand unit you bought for 7 euros and then destroyed by trying to put pirated software on it?

Since your unit doesn't have SD card slot and you can't get PC connection they couldn't help you even if they wanted to -- the only way to reflash it is through JTAG, and Helpdesk probably has neither the equipment nor the expertise to do that (there's no socket on the motherboard, need special harness for that) so they'd have to send it back to the factory.

Considering you're not a paying customer but someone who likes to use pirated software, why do you feel they should go out of their way to help you?
