|
|
Hi - just wanted to know what the largest memory card i could get for my 940 unit is? and can i just copy the entire contents of my current card and dump it onto the larger one, i need a bigger one because i want to buy more maps for it, it wont all fit on with the card that came with my unit
i take it that i wont mess things up by just copying the entire contents onto another card? _________________ Wayne Harris (Pro Musician)

32GB is the largest MicroSD card that you can put in the TomTom x40 range, that said these cards are very new and rather costly, both the 8GB and 16GB cards will work and offer a huge capacity for considerably less outlay.
Just copy the contents of the current card to the PC then back to the new card - Mike |

The cards you linked to are the SD form factor and will not fit an x40 device, you need the MicroSD which is also sometimes called TransFlash memory card, these are much smaller.
Have a look at This which shows the tiny memory card and an SD card addaptor (handy if you want to use the card in a PC or camera).
When dealing with the SDHC type cards you will see a "Class 2" or "Class 4" even "Class 6" the higher the number the faster the card - Mike |

THANKS MIKE
i have just ordered the one you sent me a link to, a great price!
i just noticed, there isnt a memory card installed in my unit anyway
i take it that the maps are stalled on internal memory which is 4GB ?
when i get my new card, do i just copy everything to it? how will the unit know to load everything from the card instead of the internal memory? _________________ Wayne Harris (Pro Musician)

The x40 units can share the Flash memory and the MicroSD memory so you can leave everything where it is on the device but put your additional maps / mp3 tracks etc on to the memory card and the software will pick up everything that is loaded.
Don't bother copying everything from the device to the memory card as there is no point - Mike |
