If not, then either there is no point waiting for the new map, or the new map has not been drafted yet, and it could be a long wait for the next map
I don't think it says anywhere that we will actually get 4 new maps a year?
All i remember seeing is that the cost of the map update service could give you up to 4 new maps a year. |
Looking on another forum people were presuming that they would get a new map every quarter as the deal is you DO get 4 new map updates every year, but tomtom could in effect give you 1 a week for 4 weeks and non for the rest of the year, the presumption about every quarter just comes from the sensible idea that if you get 4 a year is should roughly be every quarter |

Yes, but the scheme began in September - so Quarter 1 = December, Quarter 2 = March, Quarter 3 = June, Quarter 4 = September
So, being still in February, we are not yet at the end of the second quarter.

Not so. There are loads of people out here ALREADY Beta testing - there are x20 beta testers, x30 Beta testers and more recently, x40 Beta testers. Then there are all the App 8.3xx Beta testers, the Map 815 Beta testers, I hear there are Beta testers running HD traffic on their x40 devices, together with Bluetooth phone connections. Some of us have been Beta testing x20s for months now, so I bet there are loads of people just gagging to have a Beta at a new map. _________________ Dennis

I wouldn't rely on updates to Google Maps translating to greater accuracy in Tomtom's new ones. As I've previous related on this forum, I live in a new mixed used development with a new road layout, all of which has been present and correct on Google Maps for two years. TomTom's maps are still showing the old road layout. |

Even Google maps & Google earth aren’t 100 accurate within there own program.
Here is a situation you can look at for your self.
Go to googlemaps .com type in Freeport, FL. Zoom in to the N/B intersection of Hwy 331 & Hwy 20 and then click on satellite view you will see a two lane hwy going in all 4 directions. With no extencion of hwy 331 N/B at this point.
Now while you are in satellite view drag the little man over to the intersection where you can get a 360 degree view and look around . You will see a 4 lane Hwy under construction extending north of Hwy 20 (this Hwy 331 extension By-passes the town of Freeport.)
My Point is this by-pass was completed over a year ago it shows in the 360 camera view within the Google map/Google Earth program but yet doesn’t show on there map/sattellite view. |

Google maps uses ONLY Teleatlas data for the street level mapping. The satellite overlay is from multiple sources. The road data on google maps IS the same data as the Tomtom maps are based on. The satellite image overlaid onto the road data is sometimes more up to date than the teleatlas data, but it is sometimes much older than the teleatlas data! _________________ Tomtom GO 1005 LIVE

Oh and if you are really unsure of what im talking about, use the teleatlas map corrections reporter to see the ACTUAL teleatlas map data. No satellite overlay there, so what you see is the current teleatlas data!

Just had a look at this site and the senario is the same as I posted in previous post, It is just as out of date as Google map. yet as I said when you look at camera view(in Google satellite View) you can see the road work being done. |

So am I but it looks like it might run into the afternoon. The servers must be overloaded. _________________ Drivelux |

does that mean for a 940 it would also give you a new USA map or is this just a Western Europe release? |

I'm not getting a notification of a new UK map when I select update in TT Home (GO 520), but one is available in the map store (825). I've got the latest map guarantee, so looks I'm going to have to ring TT support!
EDIT: Support say the map should be available for Map Update Service subscribers in the next few days.
So I'm going to make a note on my calendar for May. |
