Well my prediction of Friday was wrong.
Perhaps Mike's prediction of 09/04/09 will prove to be right .....
Anyone up for a sweepstake? |

Yep, that's why this is so upsetting. I bought my 930 back in mid-December (good deal) and waited until the end of January to turn it on so I could get the new maps. Now it's looking like that might not happen anyway, and I could have had an extra 6 weeks of use out of it during the holidays! |
Surely you can switch it on and use it without it registering with tomtom? If you dont connect to home etc then how would tomtom know its in use? |

Personally, as a very old person and believer in magic, I have no idea whether TomTom can tell or not. BUT what I DO know is that if you have trouble with LMG and have to go to TT to solve it, they WILL require a proof of purchase - a scan of your receipt - mine included my name and address (I have had to do that TWICE because their LMG system is totally flakey). _________________ Dennis

When you first turn it on it creates a "birthday" file that tells HOME when the unit was first turned on. It uses this to determine your LMG eligibility.
There was a bug that allowed you to edit this information when LMG first came out so that you could change the date and use LMG whenever (only once though) but they fixed it sometime over the summer. |

If it was, everyone would be editing their TXT file with Notepad. _________________ Richard

It was that simple for a while. They fixed that loophole over the summer. |

Yes, it was that simple. A couple of posters had shown how to do that before their posts were dumped in another forum. Also correct that the "loophole" has been closed. _________________ Garmin 1695 / 255 / 760 w/MSN - Droid w/Google nav + Navigon - Navigon 8100T - Dakota10 - GPSMap76C - GeoMate Jr. |

On bootup today, I noticed my GO920 displaying a screen that says there is "probably a free map available".
As I used the LMG June last year and subscribed to the Map Update Service last November (currently using map v815), there should be a free map now available.
OK, more seriously, even TT expected to have delivered the updated maps by now, even their PND software says so! _________________ Steveee

According to French website tomtommax, a beta version of 8.320 is currently being tested.
Some reports claim it to be much better, others that the stutter remains....
They also post a link to the download - I have not tried it as yet, so don't know if it is a French language specific beta. |

Strange that, I purchased my last TT in November 08. And looking at the Birthday file it has a date of March 08, and some other files in the same folder that show April 08.
I have just looked at my last FULL backup from a few days ago and the files have not changed. |

I have just bought a 930 TomTom refurb, and am wondering if I should wait a few weeks before using it, so as to get the best out of the latest map guarantee? |
