|
|
Anyone else noticed that on the 940 when playing mp3s, the device stutters the mp3 when reading navigation instructions rather than the smooth fade out we got on firmware before 8.310. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come given the stuttering issues on the x20 and x30 devices |

Yes the problem was noted and reported a while back, it can also be heard on the x20/ x30 models as well, it even does this when using the Bluetooth HiFi output with the device set not to pause the music! - Mike |

Can you set not to pause the music on the fm transmitter on the 940? Pausing really annoys my girlfriend when she is in the car... |

No, the only way to set no music pause is by using Bluetooth audio output, I would like this option to be available for all audio outputs but it can't do this as yet - Mike |

While true, this is odd. Because pausing - ie. muting - the FM was the very reason TT took away the instructions over FM (reputedly falls foul of the UK/EU laws on broadcasting silence).
So they should have forced music to play over FM continuously. And/or broadcast instructions over FM in the music pause. Without either of these the units are still technically illegal under 8.3. _________________ Go Premium X / Go 1005 |

It isn't in breach of the EU directive which you need to fully read to understand, it would only be a problem if the unit transmitted a period of silence for more than a set period of time (30 seconds IIRC) the pause for a spoken navigation instruction will be less than that - Mike |

What we need is car radios with squelch controls. That way the gps wouldnt have to transmit silence if transmitting navigation commands, it could simply turn the radio off. Unfortunately, most car radios would experience excessive static hiss.
That said, it would be an allowable option under the directive and is something Tomtom could consider.... |

I'm having an "Anorak moment"... it's 1 minute.
See (or don't bother!) section 8.1 of ETSI EN 301 357-1 V1.3.1 (LPD=Low Power Device) |

I can confirm the stutter without any music playing on the 930, too. We suffered this a few times in Suffolk over the weekend on a device that previously had no speech impediment.
I have a Ericsson hands free phone kit in the car that was operating but not being used: wonder if that was affecting things?

Mike the stuttering voice is a seperate issue that has been mentioned a great many times throughout the forum.
This issue is the music repeating the last 200 Miliseconds (or so) of the mp3 track every time it pauses the music to read out a navigation instruction - quite a different snag - Mike |
