PS
I have emailed the guy I got it off to see if it was him that modified it and has he any ideas.
Don't hold out much hope of him replying.
He has the money and I am out of time for a clawback via Paypal. |

PPS
would all this explain why my 710 had lane thing on motorway and IQ routes etc or should they be there?
also now it says it can not use certain voices.
Always thought I was reasonably savvy but seem to have been caught out this time. |

UPDATE>
You were right the 710 has been hacked.
Found a file called 'read me not' ( txt file)
In it is a load a stuff I don't really understand but at bottom is a bit about emulation.
It would seem this 710 was hacked to emulate an x20 x30 x40 take your pick it would seem.
ANYHOW
Still need a cheap source for a working map.
need at least UK and Ireland.
Anyone got anything for sale? |

Yes, they should not be available.

Direct from TT via TT HOME. No point buying anywhere else as the maps are locked to the device and you'll end up in the same boat as you are now.
A UK Map will cost £39.95, a Western Europe one £59.95. You may want to start with a clean slate and but a new device such as a ONE XL which can be had for £80 inc VAT or a ONE for about £70? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Go to the TomTom web site and enter the device type you have in the map shop, select the type of map (area of coverage) and buy it, this is the only 100% way to avoid a scam off e-bay and similar.
I would wait a week or so though as its around the mid Feb some new maps are expected, we don't know the exact date but it shouldn't be too long - Mike |

Quick link to the TomTom Map shop page that Mike refers to above:

Sorry to hear of your eBay troubles, and just thought I'd say well done for deciding to get it sorted out legally. |

Thanks for the direct link to the maps page.
does it matter that the prices are US dollars?
or should I be looking at a different page for UK money?? |

Just ensure you have 'United Kingdom' selected in the country box at top right? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Correct. The TomTom website remembers your preferences, so that page will always come up as "United Kingdom" once you have set it. |

Update
The original seller has been in touch - finally.
He has admitted the unit was hacked to emulate the newer models.
Although I do not agree with it I must adnit it looked good and ran nice and did seem to have a lot of stuff on there like the lane thing on motorways and voice control etc that it would seem it shouldn't have had...
Just goes to show - ask questions before buying especially on eBay...
Think I will be going genuine map with authorisation code as above,
don't want more problems down the line...
Will it be on here when the latest map is released
or do I get a time to update to latest if I buy now off website? |

No, the Latest Map Guarantee only applies to new units. _________________ Darren Griffin |
