Hello!
I am new here and new to TomTom Go 520. I have few questions.
How big sd card can TomTom Go 520 take (i read somewhere that it can only take 4 bg card)?
Is there another (cheaper) place to buy maps other than buying directly from TomTom?
My other half also have the same TomTom and we were thinking of buying a Western Europe map in a sd card, can we share that between our TomToms? Does it have like a licence key so it gets registered to the TomTom you put it first.
Thank you in advance.
Regards

Welcome to the forum, as long as you have the latest application software on the device (currently 8,300) you can use SDHC type cards up to and including 32GB in capacity.
Maps can only be purchased via TomTom
Sharing a map between two devices isn't possible, maps are activated and therefore locked to a single device - Mike |

Are you sure that's true for maps purchased on SD card, Mike?
I thought they used the SD copy-protect features and the map was locked to the card rather then the device.
Having said that, I'm not sure if TomTom are selling any maps on SD card at the moment. They did originally, then stopped, but sold some slightly out of date ones on SD for a while last year. |

Thank you for your replies. Seems that buying sd card with the maps is out of the question if they are old and discontinued. |

But, just to make it very clear, you can expand the capabilities of your 520 using your own SD cards. I.e. you can install the whole of Western & Central Europe and North America onto a single SD card. You can purchase and download the mapping and install it to your own SD card. This mapping will be locked to your TT520 only.
You can have a bunch of MP3s on it as well. _________________ Phil |
