Press release: TeleNav ShotgunTM GPS Navigation Device Automates Mileage Tracking for Business Travelers

TeleNav Shotgun Customers Now Also Have Easy Access to Ratings and Reviews for Restaurants, Cafés, Hotels and More

SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwire - January 20, 2009) - TeleNav, Inc., the largest wireless navigation services provider in North America, announced today that it has added new features to its recently launched TeleNav Shotgun, a two-way, Internet-connected GPS personal navigation device (PND) developed for business travelers. Customers can now track miles driven using TeleNav Shotgun, saving valuable time and resources they may have otherwise spent compiling expense reports. TeleNav Shotgun now also provides customers with ratings and reviews for various points of interest (POIs), including restaurants, hotels and shopping malls, and allows customers to rate the POIs directly from their device.

"Our team is constantly thinking about technology that we can create to make travelers' lives easier," said Sal Dhanani, co-founder and senior director of marketing for TeleNav. "Many of us are frequent travelers ourselves, so we know the pain. TeleNav Shotgun is not just another GPS device. It's a business tool."

Mileage capture and business reviews are available to any TeleNav Shotgun customer using TeleNav Connected Service(SM). Mileage capture allows users to track miles driven with one click on their TeleNav Shotgun device. A driver can record mileage on specific routes or can simply start and stop tracking miles at any time when receiving turn-by-turn navigation or while in map 'follow me' mode. Users can attribute mileage captured to any client, job or other notation they choose. From their PC, they, or an assistant, can log into My TeleNav to view and download reports as Microsoft Excel or Adobe PDF files. Mileage information can remain available on My TeleNav for up to 24 months.

Additionally, before they head to a restaurant or make a reservation at a hotel, users can now check business ratings and reviews from their TeleNav Shotgun. A variety of POIs include reviews, such as bakeries, grocery stores, restaurants, hotels, shopping malls, hospitals and museums. TeleNav Shotgun also allows users to rate businesses themselves directly from their Shotgun device.

TeleNav Shotgun is available for purchase on TeleNav's Web site at www.telenav.com/shotgun or by calling TeleNav at 1 88 TeleNav 8 (1.888.353.6288). Current TeleNav Shotgun customers with TeleNav Connected Service will automatically receive an alert on their device to download the new features over the wireless network at no additional cost.

More on TeleNav Shotgun

Through TeleNav Connected Service, TeleNav Shotgun monitors traffic conditions along drivers' routes in major areas and proactively searches for congestion or incidents. Users will be alerted to traffic delays, both audibly and on-screen, and can choose an alternative route to their location with one touch. Users can also access specific incident information and determine the traffic speed / flow of major highways along their route. TeleNav Shotgun even displays an updated estimated time of arrival (ETA) based on traffic, speeds and distance.

TeleNav Connected Service also provides access to up-to-date content (maps and local search data) so users do not have to separately download new information. TeleNav Shotgun comes with 11 million POIs, one of the largest databases of business listings available on a PND. Categories are easy to search and include a variety of locations, including restaurants, hotels, airports, Wi-Fi hot spots and regular gas price updates. Users can also type in the name of a specific business. Business listings include phone numbers, so customers can save money on 411 charges if they need to call ahead.

Users can also preplan trips, save addresses and manage accounts online at My TeleNav. Customers can save locations in their 'My Favorites' folder, which will be automatically downloaded on their device the next time it is turned on. Additionally, the new My TeleNav Internet browser plug-in for Internet Explorer®, Firefox® and Google® toolbars provides users an easy way to send addresses to their TeleNav Shotgun from any Web page. Users can simply highlight an address and click the TeleNav button on their toolbar. The address will be automatically added to My TeleNav for later use on the TeleNav Shotgun. Online access also means administrative assistants can help preplan business trips for the busy executives they support.

With the TeleNav Connected Service, TeleNav Shotgun users can take advantage of upgrades without having to purchase a new device(1). Updates will be delivered via the wireless network, so users don't have to deal with the hassle of connecting cables and downloading software on a PC.

Availability

TeleNav Connected Service includes real-time traffic alerts, Internet search with over 11 million business listings, updated maps, online preplanning, and access to selected new features when they are available.

Press release: Garmin ecoRouteTM-Free Software Add-On-Helps Motorist Save Money and the Environment

SOUTHAMPTON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire) -

Garmin the global leader in satellite navigation today announced ecoRouteTM - a free software update that helps drivers save money and fuel, easing growing pressures on personal budgets and the environment.

The downloadable software will add new features to Garmin personal navigation devices (PND's) and will provide additional capabilities including detailed fuel and mileage expense reports, CO2 emissions, economical routing with cost of journeys, and tips on how to improve driving to become more environmental friendly.

"Many of the biggest challenges currently facing people across Europe involve the economy and the environment," said Clive Taylor, Director of Product and Marketing.

"Using ecoRoute on your Garmin nuvi helps you to be a smarter driver at a time when everyone is trying to make their salaries and fuel tanks go the extra mile. As the global leader in satellite navigation, we embrace the opportunity to be the leader in fuel-efficient, eco-friendly navigation."

With ecoRoute the fuel cost of a journey is displayed before it begins. This really brings home to the user how much a journey costs and aids them in the decision to either use the car or to take public transport. It's also a great reminder to kids that 'Mum or Dad's Taxi' isn't free...

Also, a feature which is both informative and fun, is the "Driving Challenge" option, giving live continuous feedback on how economically the motorist is driving. At the end of the journey an overall score is shown, along with driving tips on how to improve the score, save on fuel costs, reduce the vehicles carbon foot print and help the environment.

In addition to "faster time" and "shorter distance" for route preference, ecoRoute lets nuvi users choose "less fuel" to provide the best route to save fuel and money. Through ecoRoute's fuel report, mileage report and fuel-saving tips, drivers can focus on their fuel conservation even when they're not behind the wheel.

Fuel report tracks fuel usage over time, and mileage report monitors mileage and fuel usage on a per-trip basis and can be downloaded to a spreadsheet for detailed mileage and expense reporting. Drivers also have the ability to customize their nuvi to fit their vehicle by accessing the "vehicle profile" under ecoRoute in the tools menu. There, you can enter your car's fuel economy and the current price of fuel to help nuvi better calculate your savings.

To find out if your nuvi is compatible with ecoRoute go to www.garmin.co.uk/ecoroute. The software application is currently being optimised for Europe and will be available in February to download.

The new ecoRoute software is the latest breakthrough from Garmin, which this year celebrates its 20th anniversary of leading the technology and innovation field. Garmin is a household name globally in the automotive, aviation, marine, outdoor and fitness industries.

2009 GlobeNewswire, Inc.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- WordLogic Corporation (OTCBB:WLGC) has an important update that could impact the lawsuit against Mercedes-Benz USA involving damages for patent infringement for use of their car navigation system in certain 2007, 2008 and 2009 Mercedes-Benz models under US Patent No. 7293231 titled "DATA ENTRY FOR PERSONAL COMPUTING DEVICES." WordLogic is seeking 8.6% royalties of the sales of the infringing product that sell for approximately $3,000.00 to $5,000.00 per car. The United States Patent and Trademark Office has put WordLogic's second patent pending in a position of allowance. The Company's patent attorneys have filed the necessary response required to have this second patent pending allowed. The Company considers this development significantly important firstly as an additional asset increasing the value of this company and secondly the importance it will have in settling this case.

"Needless to say this is a precedent setting case that may impact other companies and the royalty stream from these patents will generate significant revenue in years to come," said Frank Evanshen, WordLogic's President and CEO. "Our patent pending portfolio consists of 9 patents pending, of which 4 are in active office action with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The information on our patents and patents pending can be accessed from the link on our web site."

Press release: Redflex Traffic Systems Announces American Traffic Solutions’ Withdrawal of Its Appeal to Overturn Decision on Arizona’s Photo Enforcement Contract

Redflex Traffic Systems, Inc. (“REDFLEX”), a wholly owned subsidiary of Redflex Holdings Limited, is pleased to announce that REDFLEX’ competitor, American Traffic Solutions (ATS), voluntarily withdrew its appeal to the Department of Administration (“DOA”) of the State of Arizona regarding the Statewide Photo Enforcement contract award.
In July of 2008, REDFLEX was awarded the Statewide Contract, the first of its kind in the United States, by the Arizona Department of Public Safety. In the competitive bid process, REDFLEX scored a total of 929.7 points on the evaluation as compared to 743.5 for ATS. Shortly after the award announcement, ATS filed a protest with the State in an attempt to overturn the decision. The Department of Public Safety rejected ATS’ protest. ATS then appealed to the DOA. ATS notified the DOA on January 8, 2009, however, that it was withdrawing its appeal.

ATS’ decision comes after REDFLEX signed a consent decree with the United States Federal Communications Commission (“FCC”) on December 23, 2008. ATS had filed complaints with the FCC in the summer of 2008 regarding the certification of the radar REDFLEX is using. REDFLEX settled the matter with the FCC by agreeing to implement certain compliance measures; REDFLEX also made a voluntary $22,000 contribution to the United States Treasury.

Receiving the news that ATS had withdrawn its appeal of its protest, Karen Finley, President and CEO of REDFLEX said, “We are pleased that the complaint has been settled and that it was in no way able to endanger the continued execution of this important road safety initiative for the State of Arizona.”

The Statewide photo enforcement program began on September 26, 2008 and fatal collisions have been reduced by 29%. Three fewer fatalities per month can be attributed to the State’s safety program, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Redflex Traffic Systems, Inc. has contracts with more than 230 U.S. cities, and is the largest provider of digital red light and speed enforcement services in North America. With photo speed programs in 9 states and photo red light programs across 22 states, REDFLEX has consistently led the market in contract wins, system installation rates and market share.

Press release: Redflex Executes Two New Speed Enforcement Contracts

Redflex Traffic Systems, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Redflex Holdings Limited, is pleased to announce two new comprehensive photo speed enforcement contracts with the cities of Parma, Ohio and El Mirage, Arizona.

Parma, OH
The largest suburb of Cleveland, Parma is located in Cuyahoga County and maintains a population in excess of 85,000 making it the 7th largest City in the State of Ohio.

The contract includes mobile and tripod-based speed systems, and fixed combination speed and red-light systems utilizing a phased approach, commencing with up to 5 mobile speed systems that will be deployed in school zones and neighborhoods for maximum public safety benefit. This will expand to a more comprehensive program with a broader complement of designated fixed locations based on fact-based methodology. The contract term is for five years plus two, two-year renewal terms.
Redflex was awarded this contract as a result of a competitive tender process

El Mirage, AZ
Located in Maricopa County, El Mirage has an estimated population in excess of 40,000, and is one of the fastest growing communities in the State of Arizona.

The contract includes a comprehensive scope and speed solution mix of up to 20 fixed speed, combination red-light and speed, combination rail-grade and speed systems and up to 5 mobile speed systems, with a term of three years plus two, two-year renewal terms.

“With the execution of these new contracts, Redflex is able to further distance itself from the pack through the deployment of the most technologically advanced speed enforcement solutions in the market. For example, in Parma, Redflex will be deploying our latest generation mobile tripod speed system, which is extremely compact for easy transportation and effective deployments in areas that have spatial constraints, and that would not be accessible by the traditional vehicle based units offered by our competition. In El Mirage, Redflex will be deploying the industry’s first fixed combination rail-grade and speed enforcement solution. In the key speed enabled markets, such as Ohio and Arizona, we are pleased to offer these unique solutions in complement with our full suite of cornerstone fixed and mobile speed solutions” said Karen Finley, CEO Redflex Traffic Systems, Inc.

Press release: Mobile carriers answer call for new services

DENVER (Billboard) - Wireless carriers appear poised to deliver on what the mobile industry has long seen as its holy grail -- location-based services.

Today's mobile phones can provide remarkably specific location data to their users through a combination of embedded GPS chips and network-based cell-tower data. It's a feature that holds great promise for commercial applications by providing the ability to deliver to mobile phone users information, entertainment and advertising tailored to their location.

Potential applications could be as simple as alerting fans when artists listed as their favorite on Facebook are appearing in their area, or offering them a discount on the album if they walk by a participating record store. Others can be more complicated, such as using music as a filter on mobile location-based dating services, or enabling members of a text-message fan club to find each other at concerts.

There are opportunities for the touring business as well, such as providing directions to a venue where an artist might be playing a surprise show, or less aggressive applications such as listing all the gigs scheduled in a user's immediate area.

Few location-sensitive services have made it to the mass market due to the lack of a common location technology among U.S. wireless carriers and concerns that sharing their customers' location data with a service provider could trigger privacy complaints.

But in the closing months of 2008, two leading carriers made decisive moves to provide location-based services, otherwise known as LBS, to developers in an effort to jump-start the market.

SURGE EXPECTED

Verizon Wireless, which first promised to cooperate with application developers a year ago, said it would provide developers GPS data from three of its Windows Mobile smart phones -- Samsung's Omnia and Saga and HTC's Touch Pro.

Sprint is providing its location data to the aggregators WaveMarket and uLocate, which will then offer it to developers interested in creating applications for their respective platforms. The aggregators say they'll meet Sprint's security and privacy requirements.

Thanks to these moves, industry experts expect to see the number of new LBS applications entering the market each year to surge from a handful to the hundreds.

"If you wanted to launch a location-aware app before, you had to strike a deal with the carrier, which is a brutal process," said Joel Grossman, vice president of marketing and product management for WaveMarket. "That's a hassle not only for developers, but for carriers, because it's not scalable for them. I think you'll see the business pressures on other carriers will lead them to adopt a more open solution as well."

AT&T plans to launch an LBS infrastructure in early 2009, although it has provided no details yet. T-Mobile's plans remain unknown.

What does this mean for the music industry? Grossman said WaveMarket is already working with several labels he declined to identify to develop LBS applications for new album releases and marketing plans.

Label sources admitted that they are only now starting to scratch the surface of any potential LBS applications, which to date revolve mainly around coupons and contests. Jive/Zomba said it is exploring using the technology in an upcoming David Archuleta campaign.

Island Def Jam created an iPhone app for Fall Out Boy that lets members find each other if they want to, something senior vice president of new media and commerce Christian Jorg said could become more common in the year ahead.

"I think we have a better shot this year (because) we're seeing people make a bigger commitment," Jorg said. "We're expanding what we try to do on mobile. It's part of offering more services to make mobile overall more interesting to consumers and more fun."

Press release: Vancouver Green Tech Start-Up 3rdWhale Announces Launch of LBS-Enabled iPhone Application

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire) - 3rdWhale, a Vancouver-based green technology start-up with offices in Sunnyvale, California, released an application today aimed at inspiring green living. Through the use of the iPhone's built-in Location Based Searching (LBS) and 3rdWhale's proprietary database of 10,000+ green business listings, consumers now have an easier way to find green businesses while on the go.

"We're very excited about launching this iPhone app today. The response from users has been overwhelming," said 3rdWhale founder and Chief Beluga Officer, Boyd Cohen. "As green consumers, we know how challenging it can be to make sustainable decisions on a daily basis, but we believe that given the choice and easy access to information, most consumers would rather live in a more sustainable manner."

3rdWhale celebrated the release of the application by hosting an Inauguration Party for President Barack Obama. More than 200 people attended Ceili's Irish Pub in downtown Vancouver to watch a replay of the Inaugural speech.

As America's first green President, Obama has pledged support for the creation of millions of green jobs and a doubling in the production of renewable energy in three years. Obama's campaign expertly used social media tools to mobilize his supporters on the ground and to raise the largest amount of campaign funding in the history of American politics.

The 3rdWhale iPhone app will initially support Vancouver, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and San Jose; followed by Boston, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, Austin, San Diego and Santa Barbara in the months ahead. Worldwide support is planned gradually over the next few months, in large part through the introduction of advanced user-generated content tools that allow users to quickly add their favorite green businesses.

"We are pleased to be an innovator in combining the power of the global positioning function of the smart phone with the needs of the green consumer," said Cohen. "We anticipate that with the economic downturn 3rdWhale Mobile will be of great value to businesses that have embraced sustainability and consumers who are looking for them."

Known mostly for the Greenest Person on the Planet competition held in 2008, 3rdWhale has quickly evolved into a digital media company focused on the LOHAS (Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability) market segment, which includes approximately one third of all North Americans.

Support for other smartphone platforms, such as Google Android, Blackberry and Symbian, are currently in development and expected to launch in the latter half of 2009.

About 3rdWhale: 3rdWhale.com is a digital media company focused on providing tools, resources and innovative projects that help individuals the world over live a greener and healthier lifestyle. With offices in Vancouver and the Silicon Valley, 3rd Whale is privately owned. For more information, visit http://www.3rdwhale.com

Press release: Fastrax and SiGe Semiconductor cooperate for world’s best performing Software GPS solution

Fastrax Selected SiGe Semiconductors SE4120 radio front- end to boost its Software GPS to a sensitivity of –163 dBm

Helsinki, Finland; Andover, Massachusetts and Ottawa, Canada - Fastrax, a pioneering supplier of high performance GPS receivers, GPS software solutions and tracking systems for location-aware devices, and SiGe Semiconductor, a leading global supplier of products that are enabling wireless multimedia in a wide variety of computing, entertainment and mobile systems, announced today that Fastrax has selected SiGe’s SE4120 to power its Software GPS solution.

As a result of the collaboration, the Fastrax Software GPS and SiGe Semiconductor’s SE4120 radio front-end makes available a high performance GPS solution, complimented with a reference design to enable easy integration by third parties. The reference design is also available as a turnkey solution in the Fastrax iT900 RF module. This combined offering converts the GPS radio frequency (RF) signal into a digital intermediate frequency (IF) signal that is processed by Fastrax Software GPS solution. By deploying SiGe’s IC, Fastrax Software GPS solution will provide the best user experience in a range of applications with a navigation sensitivity as high as -163 dBm.

The software-based approach is expected to increase the speed of adoption of GPS functionalities beyond the high-end cell phones. Target platforms include personal navigation devices (PND’s), mobile internet devices (MIDs), ultra-mobile PCs (UMPC’s), personal media players (PMPs), smartphones, digital cameras and laptops.

While traditional GPS solutions require the integration of a GPS specific baseband, making the design more complex and adding to the cost, a software-based solution allows faster time-to-market with less costs and more adjustable features. With Fastrax Software GPS the GPS functionality can easily be managed and customized to be fully optimized for each specific device and application.

“We are always looking for ways to improve our offering and want to drive the GPS technology development. When combining Fastrax software GPS with SiGe’s SE4120 we can deliver exceptionally high tracking sensitivity of -163 dBm, which exceeds all known solutions available in the market. We are now raising the bar on system sensitivity,” explains Kim Kaisti, co-founder and VP of Business Development at Fastrax. “SiGe’s field proven leadership in GPS RF IC’s, system knowledge and support was a significant driver to select them as one of our technology partners.”

“Both SiGe and Fastrax focus on high-quality, low-power and high-sensitivity devices for reliable performance and stable GPS services. With Fastrax deploying our GPS solutions we have helped to build a platform that offers improved performance and opens up a whole new world of location-aware applications. The new solution will initially use our SE4120L or SE4120S devices and will support all known operating systems including all Microsoft ® Windows platforms, Embedded Linux and Nucleus, which will provide wider opportunities for device manufacturers,” commented Stefan Fulga, Director Strategic Marketing of SiGe.

Fastrax Software GPS focuses on the optimization of signal acquisition and correlation, the functions typically requiring the most CPU power and memory in GPS solutions. It obtains the best performance on every platform, depending on available processing power and memory. Fastrax Software GPS flexibility enables portability to a range of CPU’s, specific application processors and operating systems as it is based on the Fastrax iSuite architecture, which was originally designed for embedded environments.

The SE4120 is a highly integrated GPS/GNSS radio front-end IC, offering high performance and low power operation in a wide range of low-cost applications. It supports GPS and dual-mode L1-band GPS/GNSS products. The SE4120 features a conditioned interface for software implementations of GNSS baseband signal processing.

The SE4120 includes an on-chip LNA, a low intermediate frequency (IF) receiver with a linear AGC and an advanced multi-bit I/Q analog to digital converter (ADC) with serialized data output. The receiver incorporates a fully integrated image reject mixer, obviating the need for a SAW filter in many applications. The SE4120’s on-chip IF filter may be adjusted from 2.2 MHz BW (for GPS only) to 4.4MHz BW (for simultaneous reception of GPS and GNNS signals). The digitized I/Q output, centered near-zero IF, is available in a serialized data stream to facilitate software signal processing.

The highly integrated PLL synthesizer of the SE4120 requires only two passive components to implement an off-chip loop filter. The SE4120 is optimized for the lowest possible power consumption consistent with a very low external component count.

Press release: Hemisphere GPS Awarded Two New Patents

CALGARY,Canada--Hemisphere GPS has started off the year by announcing that it continues to grow its intellectual property portfolio with two new patents. With approximately 50 pending and issued patents, Hemisphere GPS continues to strengthen its position as a leading innovator and manufacturer of advanced GPS products.

The Satellite Based Vehicle Guidance Control in Straight and Contour Modes patent (U.S. Patent No. 7,437,230) is for a method and system in which an agricultural vehicle is steered using GPS data. The method computes the position and heading of the vehicle, among other data components, to provide steering guidance. This patent covers the method for providing guidance both for straight (parallel) and contour (curved or circular) paths. Hemisphere GPS customers are already benefiting from this technological advance. It is currently utilized in Hemisphere GPS' successful Outback eDriveTC(TM) and GPSteer(TM) products, and allows farmers to accurately position their vehicles to avoid skipped or overlapped rows, minimize wasted seed and chemicals, and decrease overall input costs.

The Soil Cultivation Implement Control Apparatus and Method patent (U.S. Patent No. 7,460,942) enables the position of a towed agricultural implement to be controlled and maintained using GPS data. The system includes an intra-rig sensor and a GPS receiver, which relay the absolute position of the implement relative to the earth. The system can then move the implement laterally using a hydraulic actuator; to keep it from drifting off the desired path. This technology will enable farmers to cultivate precise and repeatable rows even with large and heavy towed implements, which are sometimes difficult to control. The Implement Control technique is a variation on Hemisphere GPS' other equipment position control patents, giving the company even greater protection of its intellectual property and broader coverage in the marketplace.

"We are looking forward to 2009 to be another strong year for Hemisphere GPS," says Dr. Mike Whitehead, Chief Scientist of Hemisphere GPS. "We are anticipating being awarded several more patents for our innovations this coming year. Of course, our customers will enjoy the fruits of that labor as we bring even more technologically advanced and robust products to market."

About Hemisphere GPS
Hemisphere GPS designs and manufactures innovative, cost-effective GPS products for positioning, guidance, and machine control applications in agriculture, marine and other markets. The Company holds numerous patents and other intellectual property and owns leading brand names, including Outback Guidance(R) and BEELINE(R), two of the leading brands in precision GPS for ground agriculture. The Company is headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, with major product development, sales, and marketing facilities in Arizona, Kansas, Texas, and Australia. Hemisphere GPS trades on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol "HEM" and is a component of Standard & Poor's TSX SmallCap Index.
