I have being watching this forum since a I started to have problems with my GO920t, switched to a GO930 (bestbuy extended warranty). I did something new and i wanted to know if you guys have done this.
I used to do a pin reset with the car charger unpluged. Last friday i did a pin reset with everything pluged; car charger, traffic receiver, phone connected and remote control. I have being trying it and no voice studder.
I used to get the screen flickering, no more. I will keep using it.
Another thing that I notice is, after powering up from a pin reset with the charger unpluged, I see all the information after the 5 seconds holding the power button, the date and time on the bottom resets to 01/01/2000 but when the charger is pluged and I do the pin reset, the actual date and time comes up.
Why is that? |

Is that just the v7 Kate folder, Mike?
In my 720 "day one" backup there are 7 totally different files in the "Kate" folder:
Kate.16000.loqmsx.bin
KateGilded.16000.loqmsx.bin
KateTT.16000.loqmsx.bin
KateTT.lex
LoqKateGildedSde.so
LoqKateSde.so
LoqKateTTSde.so
while on the 940:
Kate.16000.LTTS7CodecMsx.32800.10.bin
Kate.vde
KateGildedParalinguistics.16000.LTTS7CodecMsx.32800.10.bin
KateGildedPhrases.16000.LTTS7CodecMsx.32800.10.bin
KateTT.16000.LTTS7CodecMsx.32800.10.bin
But the folder structure is quite different on the x40's so a lot of files are in different places.
I can do you some full listings if you're interested. |

Thanks Mike. I've figured out what was going wrong now. I'm using a Mac and had uncompressed the two .cab files to folders on the desktop then dragged them to the tomtom drive. On the Mac, when you drop a folder onto an existing folder with the same name it removes any existing files in the folder rather than merging the contents like in Windows. The end result was I had lost a file in /LoquendoTTS/bin.
Copied over and working fine now. Thanks

Just a quick report of success in "fixing" the stutter. After the initial upgrade to 8.300 any street name was hosed. After downgrading LoquendoTTS to the posted version it improved and short street names were okay, but something like "The City of Edinburgh Bypass" still caused the problem. After installing the 8.320 Work version and re-downgrading LoquendoTTS (as detailed earlier in this thread) all appears well; it completed a fairly complex journey at the weekend using both RDS-TMC and USB charging with no obvious stuttering.
Some of the pronunciations sounded a _little_ odd though, but were always clearly understandable. And it seems to pronounce "Glasgow" two different ways - with a short "a" or a long "a" - depending on what kind of statement is being made. But overall I'd still call 8.320 with downgraded voices a "fix". Now, why the heck can't TomTom get round to packaging that after all these weeks? |

I think because the problem is not consistent. Some x20 users report no issues with 8.300 and 8.15 maps. Personally, 8.320 with TTS7 voices worked fine for me without any stutter at all. I am now running 8.300 with TTS6 AND TTS7 voices installed and have had no stutter in 30 hours plus of driving.
If they knew how to fix it then I reckon they would have by now.
My money is on a new Navcore when the next map release comes out (fairly soon as the map offer finished yesterday?)

Hi AndyVaughan
Yes, you are correct when you say that the stutter/refresh does not affect everyone. Even after all these weeks I am still waiting for Kate to make a cock-up with her words. I just can not think of an explanation. _________________ Tomtom Go 720.

Perhaps you were born lucky!
Today for the first time in ages I used Bluetooth for driving directions to my cars head unit. No stutter, but a noticeable lag on the map refresh reappeared. May be just a coincidence but somehow I doubt it.

I also have the stuttering voice problem, again this ocurred after the V8.300 firmware upgrade. I contacted TomTom who e-mailed me a solution, which worked for two days. Problem is now back.
TomTom obviously are not checking out their software fully before releasing. |

Nothing fixes it for good other than using a different Navcore version. Some of us just can't leave things alone and have been trying different versions of the TTS voices, which will improve matters but are not really a fix.
Try running 8.320 if you can't wait for the next Navcore release.

I also complained to TomTom and after explaining that their fixes don't work, this was their reply...
Quote: | Our technical are working hard to resolve the voices bug in the application, we are sorry for any inconvenience this maybe causing. It maybe an option to select a normal voice for now until a fix is created.

It was first seen in This Thread dated 10/11/08 - so how long is that.......
74 days
or
1776 Hours
or
106560 Minutes
or
6,393,600 Seconds
But who is counting????
I would expect to see some form of software update as the new map is released, the typical time between the maps is three months so it shouldn't be too far away, but who knows.... - Mike |

I've just purchased a second hand 520 off ebay and it too was also fine until I upgraded to the latest version.
I think I've sorted it by deleting the Kate folder on my TomTom and on my pc then running TomTom Home thereby forcing it to re-download the voice.
I've not actually tested it on the road but it seems to work ok in demo mode.
Sorry if this has already been suggested but I only read upto page 9 then I lost the will to live.
Also, is there a way of improving the compass cos it really is hopeless on v8. I miss v7 but I haven't got a backup for this model. _________________ Paul
