I had an email back from Satmap today, they said that they have been ready for several months but OS keep putting the meeting back with them to agree it's use. Until that happens they can not make it available. They suggest that we get as many people to write to OS and so that they can see that lots of people are interested in it and perhaps it will speed things up.

With the OS OpenSpace API I can see lots of OS based mapping utilities emerging.

Here's one I spotted which plots an uploaded gpx file. A good one for road cyclists since at max zoom level it shows the names of all the roads.

Not that I know a great deal about Facebook, but why is it ridiculous ?

If it gets the planner up and running why not.

E-mail sent to OS.

I've just sent mine. Below is a copy of my e-mail for anyone to copy, adapt and send:

Dear Sir/Madam,

Satmap have been promising their customers an online route planner for months now. They are apparently ready to launch, but waiting for the go ahead from the Ordnance Survey. This service will make the Satmap so much more desirable to new and existing customers. Can I urge you to speed up the process please, so that existing customers can make use of the promised service, and Ordnance Survey will profit from the royalties from increased sales of the mapping.

Kind regards

OS have sent me an email today as follows:-

I can confirm that the licensing terms and conditions between Ordnance Survey and SatMap have been agreed and our legal department are now in the process of formalising this agreement. It is hoped that the route planner will be available from 9 February.

Fingers crossed
