Add WD postcodes to that list. Again, changes made over 3 years ago are not reflected in the database. This makes finding WD postcode places difficult.

There's at least one area I also noted had that problem, but I don't recall it off the top of my head.

Would you believe it? Dover!!!! is not in the MRE Database.
How can you plan a journey from home to France using the ferry!!
We still have not heard anything from TomTom re the map database!

Thank you very much for the feedback, As in any map paper or electronic errors can occur.
Our map data is supplied by Teleatlas and I have enclosed a URL where if you wish you can
advise of them of the error(s)

http://www.teleatlas.com/template_feedback.jsp?ctype=support_feedback_pda&contentpage=EnterPDARequest.jsp

Unfortunately we are unable to correct existing maps errors. At present we have no details regarding map updates.

The above reply was TomToms arrogant reply to my complaint re Dover being missing from the MRE Database.

This will definitely be my last version of TomTom.
I must now research the alternatives

My home town, Rhyl (North Wales) isn't listed...it was in TT2.

I contacted TT about this situation and I received, what looks like, a promising reply today:

Quote:
Dear Mr Maddocks,

Thank you for your feedback regarding problems finding addresses/Towns/Post codes in Tomtom Navigator 3 UK
Our software development team are currently investigating it.
A solution to this will be available from ourwebsite within the next couple of weeks.
As a workaround try searching with the County name or postcode and then the street name.

In the meantime we would like to thank you for your patience and understanding

We hope to have answered your question to your satisfaction.
With best regards,

The TomTom Customer Support Team
End Quote

If TT really are prepared to offer a solution (by this I presume some sort of patch) then hopefully they will take other overlooked towns into consideration as well.

Further, as it's a fairly systematic kind of problem, there's little point reporting individual cases of it. Places missing entirely from the database is another issue entirely - report them here, though arguably reports should also go in on the TeleAtlas error reporting formDavid

Whilst it may be far to easy to blame TomTom, I think there is no one else at fault here. I know very little about either companies' quality control, however I can not imagine that leaving out this high number of towns and cities from the database is the fault of Teleatlas. Think about it, can you really expect that they could even leave out one large town like Sutton Coldfield or Dover, much less the hundreds that would appear to be missing?

There is no way that we could all have this fault on TT products but other satnav systems that use Teleatlas do not have the problem, if it was the fault of TA. If we all start reporting to them each and every missing city, for which of course we do not have the coordinates, will result in TA saying, "but hey, they are in the database, contact your software supplier", i.e. TomTom

I think reporting to TA is a waste of time and we all need to focus our efforts towards TomTom.

There's two separate issues mixed together in this thread.

Firstly, there's a generic problem with address lookup - about which I wrote the 'open letter'. It looks (if you read the latest stuff on page 8), that a revised Navigator 3 program is on the way that will help a lot with this.

Secondly, there's rather a lot of places missing from the database. I have my suspicions that there may be some subtle corruption in the Navigator 3 Great_Britain map - for example, there's a couple of areas of Dunstable, Bedfordshire, where lots of streets are all marked "not for navigation". Maybe there's a similar issue with parts of the database, causing some of the 'black holes', like all the North Yorkshire coastal towns missing - but this is just a guess on my part.

TomTom tend to direct all queries about map and database errors to TeleAtlas - there's a space on the form to indicate you're using TomTom Navigator 3, and you don't have to enter co-ordinates. By all means report them here and to TomTom - but you should also report them to TeleAtlas.

It's impossible for any of these products to be perfect. The data is frozen in time and is always out of date by the time it's in our hands. It does seem that there's possibly some errors crept in when turning the TeleAtlas data into the TomTom maps that may account for some of the errors.

However, as there's no indication that TomTom are going to reissue the maps following the 'open letter', I think the best we can do now is report the errors as carefully as we can in the hope that they'll be fixed in Navigator 4.

Add Bracknell to the list. It is listed under Bracknell Forest. Which, as far as I know, is the name of the Council not the town.

Looks like the update 3.03 has fixed most of the problems so far as I can see. I tried a few of the town names that people could not find and now they are there!!!!!

So they were in the database afterall, TT3 just could'nt see them.

I though you were saying you couldn't see Redditch with 3.03 - didn't realise you were still talking about previous version 8O

Obviously the 3.03 upgrade has solved many of the lost cities and town issues but it seems a little odd to me that when you enter a town not included in the previous version of TT3 say Rhyl…It recognises the town but replaces it with the county. No big deal as it gets the job done I suppose.

The only disadvantage I can think of is that it used to be useful in TT2 to be able to enter the town/city name in both the city and street field and TT would navigate you to the centre of that town. Helpful if you didn’t know any streets in that town. You do not appear to be able to do this with towns that have been recently added to TT3…as I say no big deal.
