I think you need to be more specific about exactly how (BT/FM/wired) you are tryin to connebt and what you are connecting for. _________________ Peter

Assuming you are talking about a Bluetooth connection, the reason may well be that the TT will only try to pair with a "Bluetooth Audio Device" while most car radios are expecting to pair with Phones.
You may need to try the "fix" from HERE (use the download from the second post, not the later one).
That worked for my Sony radio/TomTom 720 combination. |

many thanks keith.
P.S the car is a nissan qashqai the radio is claion bluetooth CY00E if that means anything to you |
Hi Keith...
I can't add much, I'm afraid...
Also, hope you don't mind if I answer in the forum itself... that means that everyone gets a chance to come up with answers and anyone else with a similar problem gets the benefit.
What you are trying to do should be possible in theory. I don't use the nav instructions overr BT myself, only mp3s, but the principle is the same.
I assume you have got the navigation instructions set to go out over Bluetooth in "Speaker Preferences"? So it is just the pairing itself that is the problem? It might be worth seeing if you can get mp3s to play over Bluetooth (again set up in speaker prefs.)
It might help someone else to pinpoint what goes wrong, if you can spell out exactly what steps you do on each device (after running the BT "fix" I linked to) and what messages you get on each too. |

Sorry to hear no joy on the BT problem. Do you know anyone else with a BT car radio of a different make you could try pairing with? (I'm in West London with a Sony that pairs OK, if it helps).
As for the missing backup.... I'm hoping your TomTom is still working at the moment, but even if it isn't, MAKE ANOTHER BACKUP NOW.
We always recommend you use Windows Explorer (not Home) to make them, and detailed instructions are in FAQ #1 in the list at the top of the TomTom-specific part of the forum HERE.
Even if it isn't working, so long as your maps are safely backed up, you can replace most of everything else for free, but a new map costs money.
If (apart from the BT problem) everything is still working OK, there's probably no point going through all the hoops required to re-create everything from scratch, as it would involve lots of downloads from several places, and you probably still wouldn't get EVERYTHING back exactly as it was.
Let us know what you think you need to do next. |

I have a 730 and it's not a B/tooth connection it's an FM transmission from the 730. I found it v. easy to set up. Find a vacant channel on your radio and tune your 730 to that channel. Very straightforward.
Secondly, it will transmit the music, but not the voice directions, unless it's wired to the radio.
**very important**
go to change preferences then speaker preferences and tick the box for FM
** actually I have just noticed that there is an alternative to send the music to bluetooth. But the FM works very well.[/u] |

thanks for that, ive made the connection with FM. Spoke to TT this is the reply. We understand that you are concerned about the recent change to the TomTom application which has disabled FM Transmission of navigation instructions. We deeply regret that it has become necessary for us to implement this change, as our FM Transmission technology was a unique innovation at the time of its release.
Unfortunately, due to recent legislation, it is no longer allowed to occupy an unused FM frequency unless audio transmission is constant. Because the signal that carries your TomTom's voice instructions is not constant (voice instructions are only given occasionally, as needed) it has now become illegal to transmit this kind of audio via FM radio transmission.
We regret that this feature can no longer be offered under the current legal restriction. many thanks for the help but looks like i will just not have to use that bit of my tomtom. |

The Bluetooth HiFi link does work to the car stereo BUT the TomTom units are rather choosy over which units they will connect to. I purchased an LG deck that I knew worked before purchase and doesn't need the BT Fix, others have had success using the BT Fix but its never 100% guaranteed to work in all cases.
I have found even with my LG unit setting up the connection often fails, does the TomTom actually report what the name of the car stereo is on its screen? and do you get as far as entering a pin number? - Again the pin number can be a difficult one, not all decks use the 0000 as a code, mine wants 1234 and I have even seen 8888 on one unit! - Mike |

I had the same problem connecting BT from my TT730T to my Sony MEX car hifi.
I used the fix that is in the link at the top of this post & simply loaded the fix into my TT & it worked perfectly, after you have the fix you can remove the software & it all still works fine, for me anyways.
Good luck |

My Sony MEX-BT5100 would not connect last summer without a patch. However, I tried again with the latest core and it now connects itself without the patch. It's been in a draw for a couple of months due to frequent crashing so it may have been fixed in an earlier release. It looks like they are updating the software.
However, on some runs it works perfectly and on others it breaks up either the directions or music being played. This is not the same as the stutter talked about in the other threads.

That's a shame I was keeping my fingers crossed .
Don't you just hate it when things don't work as they should & the amount of time we spend messing about trying to fix it, sometimes I wonder if the old paper maps were the better option, until I am lost in London again then my TT is the best thing since sliced bread |
