Hi folks,
I see TomTom are pimping the new HD Traffic, but I can't seem to find any detail as to how this varies over the previous traffic system... is it the same thing just rebadged, or is there more to it?
Thanks |

Unfortunately that doesn't show anything that's different to the current system e.g. Navigator 7. I also looked at this more detailed review, but similary it doesn't show any difference, that I can spot.
Perhaps there isn't any? But I'm just trying to confirm.

Try this
Quote: | What is the difference between HD Traffic and TomTom Traffic/RDS-TMC?
Both HD Traffic and TomTom Traffic/RDS-TMC make use of the most reliable and accurate traffic sources around, to give you the best traffic information possible. HD Traffic adds another unique way to gather information on the traffic situation: via anonymous data from the mobile phones of people on the road.
From this data, TomTom knows exactly where, in which direction, and at which speed these mobile phone users travel.
Besides this, HD Traffic offers traffic updates more frequently and on a bigger road network, including a great part of secondary roads. |
So more frequent updates (3 minutes for HD vs 15 minutes for the old system), covers more secondary roads (A and B roads) and has more data feeding it.
By the way SSR you link just links back to this thread and not the one you wanted it to..... |

Perfect! Glad to see they're leveraging data from users on the road, which makes a lot of sense.
Thanks!
(I'll see if I can fix the link) |

The link I see SSR using points to an announcement about the 740 release in the USA. The x40 range in the USA does not offer HD Traffic (possibly in the future), this service is only currently available in the UK and Holland. _________________ Drivelux |

Are you not in the UK then?
The TomTom website page I linked to (HERE) is blindingly obvious about the differences, but maybe you get a different page in other countries.
The page I see, says:
Quote: | How HD Traffic works
TomTom HD Traffic uses a revolutionary new source of traffic information: the traffic flow of up to 16.7 million anonymous mobile phone users on the road. From this anonymous data, TomTom knows exactly where, in which direction and at what speed all these mobile phone users are travelling throughout the road network. This real-time data is combined with other existing quality traffic information sources, resulting in the most complete and reliable traffic information. |

I have HD Traffic on my 720 via GPRS traffic subscription
TomTom don't tell you this though.
When there is no network I get message saying unable to connect to HD traffic, so that proves I have it! |

Hmm, I wouldn't be so sure, what software version are you running? _________________ Darren Griffin |
