Hi everyone
New member, beginner to GPS use. Had a Satmap for a while. Think it';s great BUT freezes or stops active fixing on satellites annoyingly frequently. On version 1.2. I turn it off and on again and it seems to pick up, but not always.
Is this the freezing that I've seen mentioned a couple of times? and would it be fixed by updating software?? Should I wait for 1.3 ? I see one post mentioned a "warm start up" to solve when out on a walk. What is that please?
Forum looks great, very glad I've found it. Any advice welcome! |

When you are out using the device just let the screen turn off automatically, don't switch the device off with the power switch, this keeps the GPS Receiver part functional so you can see where you are on the map instantly when you next power up the screen.
If its locking up all the time though I would give SatMap a ring as that is not right, I have only experianced a couple of lockups in the 16 months plus that I have owned one.
As you are waiting for the 1,3 software to try that, you should visit the SatMap web site as this update has just been made available - Mike |

Re. the freezing. Satmap have told me that the new software (1.3) will fix this problem. They advise that if it continues after the update they should contacted with a view to a repair under warranty. |

Thanks guys. I'll try the upgrade and take it from there. So just letting the screen switch off and then re starting would be a warm srart up?? |

When a GPS is fired up from "cold" it has to download almanac data to decide its position. This almanac data changes every few hours or so,or if you move a significant distance.
If the GPS is switched on and can use the "old" almanc data it will get a lock quicker hence a "warm" start up.
