Despite unchecking the "Start Home every time I connect to this computer" box in preferences, Home still insists on starting every time I connect.
Can anyone suggest how to stop this? I do not want to disable Home completely. _________________ Alan

Start--Run--Msconfig.
Startup tab.
Is Home checked? If so, uncheck. Click Apply. Restart Computer. When the box appears advising that stuff has been checked, check the box saying not to show it again. click 'ok'. _________________ David |

Thanks, dhn. Unfortunately, there is no "Home" programme in the start up folder. _________________ Alan

Use Explorer to look at the contents of the unit. (I'm going from memory now, and THAT is a scary thing!).
I believe there is a text file called autorun.inf.
If so, I believe you can put a # sign at the beginning of the line referring to the starting of Home. It's about the 4th line down. _________________ David |

Thanks David, but it seems TT Home is not to be controlled.
I have tried two hashes but Home still opens
File now reads:
[autorun]
#action=Run TomTom HOME
#open=InstallTomTomHOME.exe
label=TomTom
icon=tomtom.ico
[DeviceInstall]
#This section is empty; autorun will not install device drivers to your PC. _________________ Alan

Do you have a HOME Icon in the Sys Tray?
If so, Right Click and select Exit.
If that works you will have to do the same every time that HOME is used. ![Sad](modules/Forums/images/smiles/icon_sad.gif) _________________ Richard

I've managed to stop it running on this PC, but I have to admit I've forgotten how I did it!
First you can try looking on the other tabs in msconfig (possibly in Autoexec.bat) - that's how I've done it in the past or on other PCs. But this time I've got nothing obvious that I've unticked in msconfig.
I also have a couple of utilities called "Startup monitor" and "Startup Control Panel" installed on this PC (downloadable from HERE) which install a new control panel entry and will probably do the trick for you (although once again, this doesn't seem to be how *I* stopped it this time!)
On my work PC, I had something similar called "StartupCop" (from
HERE for the free version) which runs as an accessory program. That should be able to kill it too. ![Smile](modules/Forums/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

Are you looking at the StarttUp tab in MSConfig, or the contents of the StartUp folder from your Start menu? The two are very different, and MSConfig contains many more programs that run on StartUp. |

Trouble is, as I say above, Home seems to keep changing the way it autoruns, and this time there's nothing in the Startup tab for HomeRunner or similar.
But it can be done! |

I had the same problem until I downloaded CCleaner from File hippo. Under tools, you can disable all the programs you don't want to start up. However, if you 'update' the program, you'd need to re-disable [sic] it. ![Laughing](modules/Forums/images/smiles/icon_lol.gif) |

Curiouser and curiouser...
I've got CCleaner installer on this machine AS WELL (maybe all these "double utilities" are something to do with why my PC takes so long to boot up! ) - and there's nothing about Home or Homerunner mentioned there either!
Wish I could remember what I did to kill it! |

Ahhh... Are we all talking about the same Home version?
I have v2.5.2.60 (seen on the Help/About TT Home menu) and I don't HAVE that option in the preferences menu any more.
The relevant tickbox on the General tab is now changed to "Start Home automatically when I connect my device to my computer"

Maybe... I had a quick trawl through it this morning to see if I'd edited something I could still see, but no luck.
I was searching for "Home", but there's a lot of spurious stuff like "home networking" when you leave the search as vague as that, so I migh have missed something! |

Yes, 2.5.2.60. I was lazy and typed the tab wording from memory.

Yes, msconfig. Though I did find some there which I was not aware were running and have deleted them.

That's done it - but I never used to have to do that!!
Thanks, folks - and I must have a look at the sugggested start up cleaners - look useful. _________________ Alan
