Hi,

I'm sure this has been asked before but I did a quick search and didn't see anything.

I want to create my own personal POI file to store places I visit so I can get back to them (just like Favorites but so I can have more than 20 of them) - what's the easiest way to do this?

I have TTN3, GPSAssist v2 and Checkpoint v2.02 installed.

TTN3 has a memorise position function in the menus but that just adds it to the recent locations and you can't seem to do anything with it.

I tried the POI Recorder in GPS Assist v2 and it captures the position but it seems to have the following problems:

- it saves it in a GPSAssist POI file and I can't seem to find out how to create my own.

- You can't seem to be able to rename that saved position, just change the description

- There doesn't seem to be any tooltips on any of the buttons in GPS Assist and I can't find a manual so it's hard to tell what does what!

Thanks!

Hi,

Before I give some feedback note that the manual is currently being reviewed by the Beta audience. It should be available today or tomorrow.

to create your own POI file just put and empty OV2 file in the map directory. You could also rename GPSAssist.OV2 to something you want. Make sure to add it to your favorites list (check local tab in POIAssist). Do note that POIAssist will have a function to do this from the menu (e.g. create new OV2 file).

With the POI Manager you can rename/move all your recorder POIs.

Thanks,
Jo.

You can do it from TTN3, but it's a bit cumbersome. From your Recent Locations, choose the one you want and Show On Map; tap and hold the selected location, then choose Add as Point of Interest. The dialogue box lets you choose which POI file it goes to, but at the top is an entry <new type> - from here you are then able to create a new POI file.

Hi devulderj,

Thanks for the info - i'll give all that a try.

I applied to get access to the beta forums when I registered gpsassist a few weeks ago but I still don't have access so I e-mailed off again today.

POI Manager only seems to let you change the description, not the name. The move drop down was blank but maybe that's because I had not added any poi's to the favorites.

Hi,

I just had a play with POI Manager in the latest GPS Assist and what I thought was the description was actually the name - what I thought was the name is actually the file name the POI is in.

I can't get the move function to work though - using POI Assist, I have several local POI's in my favorites list but then in POI Manager, the drop down box for Move POI is empty - how do I get my other POI's in this list so I can move newly recorded POI's into them?

Thanks

You need to add the OV2 file to your favorites list before it is available for POI recording and deleting.

File/POIAssist/Locals/Add to favorites

This is all explained clearly in the manual which will be available today or tommorow Wink

Thanks,
jo;

Ian,

don't pay too much attention to my previous reply. It does seem that you've added your local file to your favorites list. I will need to take a closer look ...

Thanks,
Jo.

Hi Jo,

I just realised you are the author of GPS Assist Smile - I e-mailed you this morning about getting access to the gps assist beta forums.

Yeah, i've added it to the favorites list in GPS Assist but it hasn't appeared in the move to list in POI Manager.

Also, can I make a suggestion - the POI Manager lists POI's, showing "File Desc", Group and Map - is it not possible to show the name/description of the POI in there? - if you had loads of POI's - how would you know which was which in that list?

The drop down at the top of POI Manager just shows [All], [Newly Recorded] and [Newly Deleted] - is it possible to put the POI File in there, so you can show all the POI's from a certain file?

Thanks!

Ian,

I will add a function to create a new empty ov2 file from within the POIManager. This is more easy than having to use TTN to do it.

Cheers,
Jo.

Hi Jo,

Great - i've already done it with TTN now but it'll still be useful.

I still can only seem to see/edit the poi's in the gpassist file though..

Thanks

By the way Jo,

My "Move To" box is still empty in POI Manager, even though I have 2 local POI's in my favorate list in POI Assist.

Thanks
