Hi,
Is it possible to update the POI in Garmin, not the custom ones? |

No, you can supplement the built-in POIs but you cannot update/replace them. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hi,
what do you mean by suppliment?
All I want to do was add more POI to the catagories that are there rather than them being in the custom POI menu |

You can't. You can add custom POIs and supplement the built-in data but you cannot add/edit/amend the pre-installed POIs. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I'm a little confused.
When I add POIs to my VM I can create a category and add an icon.
So what happens with the Garmin? Nuvi 250W?
I have downloaded POIloader from the Garmin site and have coverted and saved files to my PC, just to try it out.
If I want to send the files to the unit I have the option of overwriting the existing files or removing all POI files
*Install new custom POIs onto your device
*Remove all previuosly laoded custom POIs from your device.
Does the POI loader add the correct bmp icon to the POIs in the conversion?
If I put all the new POIs on an SD card will I have to choose one or the other or will the unit read both?
Lots of question I'm sorry |

Choose
Quote: | Install new custom POIs onto your device |
The second option is just for clearing the POIs off the unit and POILoader wipes out all existing Custom POIs before loading the new ones.
The get the right BMP the BMP file must have the same name as the CSV file
i.e.
Sainsburys.CSV
Sainsburys.BMP
BP petrol.CSV
BP petrol.BMP
etc
If they load on the SD card then you may be asked if you wish to move them to the unit but you'll see any Custom POIs on the unit mixed with the ones on the SD card. Note: The Custom POIs are not mixed with the built in POIs. |

Thanks Paul most helpful. The biggest problem is that there is no way of knowing what POIs are loaded by garmin as standard or can you use POI loader in reverse!!!
Removing the previuosly loaded ones must remove all the foreign ones as well ............ NOT good |

Not sure what you mean. The built in POIs are built into the map data and are unaffected by POILoader.

True, but if you include the files in the upload they'll be reloaded. Each time you use POILoader you must upload ALL your Custom POIs each time in full. |

It is a shame! The built in POI data is truly rubbish, and Garmin should be ashamed of including them in the first place. I know of TWO Shell garages in the "Where Am I?" fuel list, that do not exist, one of them has been a block of flats for about seven years, the other one is a house, and these are both within 5 miles of where I live!
I wouldn't trust the "Where Am I?" function if I really needed it. |

It wouldnt be to bad if they could be altered etc through mapsource so not a basic novice could mess them up.
The part that bugs me, is having to go to custom POI to search because its more correct and has more POI than the standard. |
