Press release: 08.01.09 Nokia brings convergence to life at CES and puts environmental education front and center

January 08, 2009

Join In! as Nokia showcases new devices, an array of compelling mobile services and how consumers can reduce their carbon footprint

Las Vegas, NV, USA - At this year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Nokia (NYSE: NOK) will showcase the industry's broadest and most exciting mobile device portfolio including the coveted Nokia N97 mobile computer, the multiple award-winning Nokia E71 and new devices announced for North America. CES also marks the first public debut in North America of the highly anticipated Nokia N97 mobile computer which has been repeatedly commended as one of the most stylish, functional and impressive converged mobile devices to date.

Additional devices being announced at the show are the Nokia 1006, Nokia 7510 and Nokia E63 for North America. Nokia also invites attendees to Join In! the fun and exciting journey that we are embarking on in 2009 by visiting the Nokia booth to experience its growing consumer service offering which will continue to play a pivotal role in changing the way people communicate, play, share, search and consume content. Visit Nokia on the upper level of the Las Vegas Convention Center's south hall, booth #30313.

"Nokia continues to connect more people around the world than any other mobile device manufacturer on the planet. More importantly, we continue to raise the bar with compelling mobile experiences," said Mark Louison, President, North America, Nokia Inc. "This week at CES, Nokia is demonstrating our leadership by again setting the industry benchmark - with a wide range of devices that are easy-to-use, with fun and collaborative services that consumers demand, like music, gaming, maps and media. It's an exciting time in our industry and we look forward to bringing more of these experiences to life in North America this year."

Join In! the Expanding Nokia Community
The Nokia 7510 is the latest addition to the growing portfolio of devices available from T-Mobile USA. Building on the successful XpressMusic range of devices sold at T-Mobile, the Nokia 7510 gives consumers an added level of customization, style and function. This colorful device allows consumers to personalize their device with an external display that stays 'hidden-until-lit'. The display utilizes LED lights to illuminate a new message, incoming call or while playing music, an artist and song title. This new flip phone is built on the Series 40 platform, acclaimed for superior ease of use, and comes with a push-to-open side key, enabling it to be opened with the press of a button as well as several colorful Xpress-On Covers to help consumers accessorize their device with their lives.

Further cementing Nokia's commitment to the North American CDMA market, Nokia also introduced the Nokia 1006 - the latest CDMA device for AWS carriers, developed in Nokia's San Diego product creation center. Ergonomically designed for on-the-go convenience, the Nokia 1006 is curved to comfortably fit a user's face and hand, with a large, bright color display, and includes features like voice memo, speakerphone and a phonebook capable of holding 500 entries. The sleek device will be available in blue and silver.

Building on the extensive portfolio of devices in North America, Nokia is introducing the Nokia E63 at CES 2009. The North American variant of the Nokia E63 will be optimized for the US market; designed for people who need to manage their business and personal lives equally well. Building on the success of the Nokia E71, the company's flagship messaging device, the Nokia E63 brings the QWERTY keyboard form factor to a broader audience at a great price. Engaging with your social networks is a breeze with the Nokia E63 - thanks to a large, bright 2.6 inch QVGA screen for web browsing and full QWERTY keyboard for easy updating and typing. The Nokia E63 is expected to begin shipping in North America in the first quarter of 2009.

To complement some of our newest mobile devices, Nokia is also introducing the Nokia Bluetooth Headset BH-904. The Nokia Bluetooth Headset BH-904 is capable of separating a user's voice from ambient noise, ensuring good speech quality in noisy environments such as in the car, on public transportation or in busy public places such as restaurants. It has the ability to maintain two active connections between the headset and another device at the same time. So a user can simultaneously connect for example to a PC (for VOIP) and to a compatible mobile device. The Nokia Bluetooth Headset BH-904 also offers up to five hours of talk time after only 15 minutes of charging. Additional information about the new Nokia Bluetooth Headset BH-904 can be found at www.nokia.com/bh-904.

Join In! the Collaboration
Ever wanted to play your mobile music on your home stereo, or control your music devices with your mobile, maybe synchronize your digital content between your home devices and your phone? At CES 2009, Nokia will be demonstrating how consumers can make use of this ultimate home experience supported by the Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) protocol. Additional information about this exciting demonstration can be found at http://europe.nokia.com/A41123203.

Another key offering that will be demonstrated at CES will include an innovation from the Nokia Research Center, in which Nokia will demonstrate EasyMeet, a public trial of its mobile communication and collaboration system making anywhere and anytime web conferencing a reality. EasyMeet users can use their mobile device to attend or invite others to online meetings where remotely created and stored documents can be shared and viewed via the mobile device. CES attendees are invited to go to http://easymeet.nokia.com from their mobile device to experience an EasyMeet demonstration.

The Power of "We"
Nokia has long been a recognized leader in driving responsible environmental practices, and at CES 2009, the company is announcing its role as worldwide sponsor of Giant Screen Films' newest IMAX® production, Wild Ocean - a spectacular underwater adventure that showcases the power of people coming together to protect the environment that sustains them.

The film, directed and written by Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas, the Academy Award-nominated creators of the stage sensation STOMP!, chronicles a massive annual migration, following billions of sardines up South Africa's KwaZulu-Natal shoreline. CES attendees are invited to stop by the Nokia booth for tickets to experience this magical underwater adventure for a viewing on Friday, January 9 at 7 p.m. PST and 8 p.m. PST. Tickets and show-time information can be found at www.nokiausa.com/wildocean.

"Nokia continues to be at the forefront of driving 'green thinking' and helping consumers make environmentally intelligent choices. We strive to educate consumers on options for recycling their old mobile phones, and at CES 2009 we will demonstrate the new Nokia Carbon Calculator - a mobile application that encourages users of devices, such as the new Nokia 6650 with AT&T, to offset the carbon footprint of their travels," said David Conrad, head of Environment, Nokia North America. "In addition to our green initiatives, education is also playing an important role, and our sponsorship of the film Wild Ocean is just another way in which we hope to educate the world that if we each do our part, we as a community can make a difference, making the planet a cleaner, greener and better place to live."

The products are now available in the U.S.

“Our mobile products support the company’s strategic goal of providing customers with pervasive access to Hoover’s,” said David Mather, Hoover’s president. “Whether they’re in the office or on the road, we know our customers still need Hoover’s business insight and tools, and we want to ensure we deliver it to them in a way that fits within their normal daily workflow.”

Hoover’s Mobile and Hoover’s MobileSP allow users to access important customer, prospect and partner information, identify new prospects, size up competitors and prepare for meetings, and seize upon unexpected opportunities. Both products include mobile search for finding 28 million companies and 36 million executives, as well as maps and driving directions.

Additionally, Hoover’s MobileSP users have at their fingertips:

One-click access to call executives

GPS-enabled location searches

Advanced search and list-building

Custom call queue and “Save to Contacts” capabilities

Existing customers have been testing Hoover’s Mobile as a beta product and unanimously praised the ability to quickly find the information necessary to identify and evaluate potential sales leads and markets while traveling.

“Hoover’s Mobile is seamless, very well thought out and appears to be designed for business professionals, like myself, who are moving more and more towards self-sustainable mobile devices as opposed to lugging around a laptop all the time,” said Rob Gowan, founder of Gowan Research. “I’m on the road at least three weeks every month and Hoover’s Mobile gives me the flexibility I need. I can use it to quickly find the people and companies closest to where I am at any given time. It’s dead simple and gives me exactly what I want, when I want it.”

Hoover’s also released findings from its annual Mobile Survey, based on an October 2008 questionnaire to its three million monthly site visitors and customers. The survey results showcase a clear need for easier integration of mobile business tools. In addition to uncovering that 85 percent of customers would access Hoover’s information via mobile devices, the Hoover’s Mobile Survey discovered that 75 percent of customers have mobile devices they use primarily for business.

“Hoover’s is tapping into the workflow needs of the majority of its customers who are primarily executives and salespeople who work remotely on the road and combine business and personal use of their smartphones,” said Chuck Richard, lead analyst at Outsell, Inc. “Hoover’s sees the amount of time customers spend with these devices as new virtual market territory, and this mobile offering as one way to get existing and new customers used to turning to Hoover’s while on these devices.”

Pricing and Availability

Hoover’s Mobile is available for free, and Hoover’s MobileSP is available for an introductory price of $19.99 per month or $199 annually. Users can subscribe by visiting www.hooversmobile.com. Existing Hoover’s subscribers should contact their account managers about adding the mobile product.

Press release: 08.01.09 PCD SHOWCASES LATEST PRODUCTS AT INTERNATIONAL CES 2009

HAUPPAUGE, NY and LAS VEGAS, NV (January 8, 2009)-- Wireless messaging devices are hot and no company knows that better than Personal Communications Devices, LLC, (PCD), who has brought some the most popular messaging devices to the marketplace. PCD has been a leading supplier to wireless carriers in North and South America since it was founded in 1984 as Audiovox Communications Corp. A key element of PCD’s business strategy is to identify segmented market needs and develop specific products to meet those needs. It’s not a “one device fits all carriers and consumers” approach, like many handset companies take.

“PCD has been able to bring carriers and their customers unique products that other companies do not have,” explained PCD President, Philip Christopher. “We’re a business partner, providing carriers with access to an exclusive range of products. And for technology developers, we are a gateway to get their devices into the North and South American wireless markets.”

PCD’s Popular Messaging Devices
PCD has developed a diverse array of devices that address the current market demand for wireless messaging and texting handsets. Among the PCD’s messaging devices that are popular with carriers and their customers are the following:

Blitz (TXT8010) – Teens and tweens love the bright blue Blitz text messaging device which offers a quick way to send text and multimedia messages. The entry-level handset has the convenience of a QWERTY keyboard, a large color screen, and a digital camera.

Quickfire – A large interactive touch screen that works in portrait or landscape modes, a slide-out QWERTY keypad and a 1.3 megapixel camera are just some of the features of this 3G world phone. Available in three fun colors – lime, orange or silver – this is the device for textaholics to send text, pictures, videos and instant messages with ease – but do not need corporate email access.

Sidekick - Sidekick multimedia messaging devices bring cool mobile communications to new levels with large swivel screens and QWERTY keypads. High-res cameras and video capabilities, picture messaging, expandable memory and other popular features, put this device from PCD technology partner Sharp on the cutting edge.

Pay-As-You-Go Phones are Part of PCD’s Plan
In addition to messaging devices, handsets for pay-as-you-go carriers, whose customers prefer contract-free wireless communications, has been a strong segment for PCD. Here are a few examples of PCD’s most popular pay-as-you-go handsets:

Shuttle– Virgin Mobile’s first 3G handset is a slender slider from PCD with a 1.3 megapixel camera, video recording and playback, music player. The Shuttle delivers GPS functionality and Helio location-based services.

Arc, SuperSlice and Slice – A trio of trendy handsets that are proven winners with teens, ‘tweens and their parents. These handsets match form, function and affordability. The Arc, SuperSlice and Slice have been available through Virgin Mobile’s on no-contract, pay-as-you-go service.

PCD’s Niche Products for Specialized Needs
Not every wireless customer is a texting whiz or a teen looking for a trendy phone. PCD’s wise range of products address many specialized needs of wireless consumers including those who use wireless for business and pleasure. Here are a few examples of PCD’s niche products:

G’zOne and Boulder- Ruggedized and ready for action, these water, shock and dust resistant CDMA handsets are perfect for individuals who work or play outdoors and in high activity situations. Made for PCD by Casio, these handsets meet stringent, multiple military standards for exposure to heat and solar radiation, vibration, humidity, storm conditions, submersion, dust and a drop test.

Coupe – This easy-to-use wireless phone targets parents and seniors. The Coupe is a simple and reliable phone with three dedicated In Case of Emergency (ICE) buttons, a simplified menu, large font and easy-to-read keypad. Parents can rest assured their children have a phone with pre-programmed numbers that’s easy to use and seniors are equally pleased with the handset’s simplicity. It’s a great basic phone for folks who want uncomplicated wireless communications.

UM175 – This wireless broadband USB 2.0 modem provides the convenience of high-speed, wide area, wireless connectivity and flash memory drive all in a pocket-size device. Downloading and uploading files (Forward/Reverse Link) with the UM175 are fast with download rates of up to 3.1 Mbps and upload speeds up to 1.8 Mbps.

“Providing niche wireless products isn’t PCD’s only business, but our ability to match carriers’ varied needs with innovative technology partners has proven successful,” said Mr. Christopher. “We also know that carriers need mainstream products for entry-level, mid-tier and high-end consumers and we deliver those too.”

About Personal Communications Devices, LLC (PCD)
PCD (http://www.personalcommunicationsdevices.com) is committed to bringing you the wireless world through innovative wireless devices and rich service offerings. Formerly UTStarcom Personal Communications Division, PCD serves as a global gateway for technology partners, providing high-quality, reliable and versatile wireless communications devices including handsets, PocketPCs, smartphones, messaging devices and wireless broadband modems to carriers throughout North and South America. Press release: 08.01.09 Strategy Analytics: Acceptance of UK Mobile Navigation Apps Emerging
Mobility and Integration Key Factors

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Strategy Analytics Wireless Device Lab service shows that acceptance of mobile device-based navigation applications is growing among consumers in the UK, according to published research, “UK Navigation: Mobile Devices Can Compete With PNDs.”

http://www.strategyanalytics.com/default.aspx?mod=ReportAbstractViewer&a0=4404

These findings are based on in-depth one-on-one research sessions in London, England, in which consumers experienced two high-end Personal Navigation Devices (PNDs) as well as Nokia Maps and Vodafone Navigator.

“Strategy Analytics research shows that consumers preferred Vodafone Navigator by Telmap over both PNDs in terms of usability,” commented Chris Schreiner, Senior User Experience Analyst at Strategy Analytics. “As touchscreen-enabled mobile devices become common, more consumers will be drawn to mobile devices for their navigation needs.”

Kevin Nolan, Vice President of the Strategy Analytics User Experience Practice, added, “Mobility and integration are two key factors that drive consumers toward a mobile device-based navigation solution.”
