Connected it to Tomtom Home (I am running Vista SP1)
It recognised my new device, but showed my previous device (GO 300). I took the option to link my new 540 to my account, then ran the update.
It now appears to have installed the old maps (from my 300) onto the device and filled up the memory (error message shows unable to copy a system file, as "S" drive is full).
I can reset the device, but cannot get into the menu system to restore factory defaults....
Not very happy. |

Have you got a full backup of the device? - if not try connecting it to the PC and shut down the Home software on the PC, start up Windows Explorer and can you see the drive letter associated with the TomTom hardware - if so are there any files/ folders listed on the drive? - Mike |

Ok, will do.
What version map should I have, because it appeared to have v8 and v6 installed. I assume v6 was version that would have come from my 300. If so, why would it install an old version ?
I will have a look at the files via explorer |

A 540 device will have been supplied with v810 or v815 mapping installed - if you can open the map folders on the device and locate the file with .pna as the file extension open this with NotePad and it will show you the map version number.
If you can see files/ folders on the device copy the whole lot to the PC as a backup using Windows Explorer just in case you delete a file/ folder in error - Mike |
