Not necessarily...

it would therefore depend upon how much you like the pointer versus other features on different devices.
Indeed, your One might be perfectly adequate for your needs under these circumstances _________________ Andy

Right, OK, we understand now. (Well "they" do, but I'm too old to cotton on ). _________________ Dennis

I said 'in some cases'
I also said, "And I didnt really just follow an arrow but part of the journey".
Partially! i have followed the arrow for the reamining 1 mile, 3 miles, it varies. Its not black and white!
IMO it is a v. useful tool and for some reason, according to you, they have removed it.

NOT according to me - I have NEVER used it, don't know how to activate it and don't know what it looks like.
I did have a directional arrow on McGuider when I tried that and considered it a complete waste of effort. I see no benefit from knowing the direction is "over there" at the other side of a field, centrally at the T junction ahead, or north, south, west or east of my present location. If I know where I am and where the roads go, I'm not looking for a compass or any other navigational aid. If I don't know where I am or where the roads lead to, it is sheer folly to turn right simply because the arrow says my destination is to the right, especially if the satnav is telling me to go straight on, turn left or turn around when possible. Have you never driven in a coastal or mountainous region? You'd look a bit red-faced if you followed the direction arrow up a dead end valley or promontory, don't you think? I wouldn't recommend trying following the arrow to get from Margate to Felixstowe.
Whether the arrow is there or not does not influence my purchasing decision and if you reject a TomTom device solely because it doesn't have an arrow, I think you're making a mistake. _________________ Dennis

Don't you ever drive for fun Dennis? Maybe not as you do it professionally. I liked the directional compass. You could set your destination and meander down little roads in the general direction of your destination.
It was also amusing when in a moutainous region (eg Alps or Pyrenees) to see that your destination is, say, 6 miles away and it is going to take you 24 miles (some in the opposite direction) to get there!
Also useful if you did not want to follow TT suggestions blindly. _________________ Alan

I regularly drive for pleasure - actually, taking my time, not speeding is part of a pleasurable drive. But I frequently do my return empty trip selecting shortest route so that I don't go down all the boring fast roads. It occasionally gives me cause for concern, like the day I gingerly traversed a Cotswolds ford up to my doorsills, whilst recalling I had very recently put in my two penn'orth about fools who follow their satnavs into rivers!
But I'm too thick to follow the direction arrow - that replaces my own sense of direction and I wouldn't trust either of them to get me out of a paper bag!! _________________ Dennis

That is a point or two I was trying to make.

Ahah - I didn't realise the arrow also told you distance to destination as the crow flies. _________________ Dennis
