I currently use a TT GO 700 and have decided to upgrade, hopefully to one of the latest TomTom units.
My question is how/whether I will be able to mount the latest units in my car the same way as my 700?
The 700 is permanently wired for power and external phone mic. using a very neat arrangement. The 700 attaches to a TomTom mount that I have screwed permanently onto an OEM phone mount in my car. The permanent power feed and mic. lead are attached to the rear of the mount.
All I need to do when leaving the car is remove the 700 from the mount - easy.
The two pics on the links below show the arrangement:

My questions are:
1. Can I set up the same or similar arrangement with permanent power into a mount etc. on the new TomTom units (730/740 etc.) so that I can just unclip the unit and go?
2. If yes to above can I use a TomTom mount or do I need to buy aftermarket?
3. do the latest units come with external phone mic provision.
Finally, if none of the above is possible, are there any other decent sat nav makes where I could set up this arrangement?
Thanks in advance for guidance and advice.

Apologies.
Just spotted the posts re DSL Developments Brodit mounts so that's one question answered.
Can anyone say whether the latest TomTom units will take an external mic via the mounts?
Thanks |

I prefer Carcomm cradles personally see here and here. They have an x20/x30 cradle with an x40 cradle due soon. _________________ Darren Griffin |

The x20, x30 units don't have provision for the external microphone, the built in microphone is considerably better on these devices than the earlier units.
As for the x40 with an external microphone I am not too sure - the device has numerous pins available for connection, but as yet I have not seen a mount with an external microphone connection point on it.
A 720 or 730 with the Carcomm cradle is a great combination, the x40 with the Brodit Pro clip accessory mount is also very good, once the third party mounts for the x40 range hit the shops then we will see what they can offer - Mike |
