Hi
I today received my GO 720 and after a few problems have managed to update to the latest application and map. Well chuffed so far - thanks again to topgazza for pointing me to the totalPDA deal.
When looking about in Home (updated to 2.5.2.60 today) I noticed the "Operate my device" button. This seems to allow you to use and setup the TomTom using the computer mouse and keyboard while it's connected. I'm very impressed with this feature as many of my journeys are pre-planned at home and I find it much easier to set the device up using a laptop/mouse/keyboard than using the touch screen.
My question: Is this facility new or has it been there for some time?
Cheers - Andy |

Certainly in the past few versions, not sure for how long though. It does not work well on the x40 range where you cannot use the live services. _________________ Drivelux |

You're welcome rhubarbe..just doing what the good folk here are renowned for. After my initial problems mine is working fine but not tried it on long trips to see if it stutters. I have Kate V7.10 ready if it does and TT don't comeout with a fix first.
Not tried the Operate My Device feature yet. I'll check it out now.
I intend to use Google maps to plan any complicated routes for me, as I do now with TT6 on my phone. Although I an very impressed so far with the few test routes I have run on the 720.... _________________ TomTom 720

Hi again
Are you saying that you can plan routes on Google and transfer a route to your PND.

Yup...theres a thread or too on the subject that might give you more detail.
Haven't had to do it for a while but I have downloaded a program called TYRE from which you can do the whole thing. Or you can plot your route in Google and the program will convert it to TomTom speak. There are other ways as well so have a good root around here first.
try here
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=70681&highlight=tyre
which is the one I used before from Autoroute but I believe a lot of people use TYRE and Google now.....
Google TYRE and it will give you a link to their website...and its free.... _________________ TomTom 720

Thanks. I did try a search in the forum before posting but came up with a thousand or so hits! I've since whittled it down and found the link you've since posted.

Heh, heh, some searchs are easier siad than done thats for sure.
You can send routes directly to Home or your TomTom and it also save s a copy on your PC as well. Good program.....
At least it should be seamless when creating and storing routes. _________________ TomTom 720

The new TomTom Online Route Planner should do the same whilst taking into account IQ data & then save the itinerary to the TomTom. Having said that, I tested it out on a route from Liverpool City Centre to my home 20 miles away at 2.00 in the afternoon &, although I can't remember how long it quoted me to do the trip it only added 1 minute when I changed departure time to 5.00 pm...... If only that was true !!! |

I didn't know there was a TT online planner...well you learn something everyday.
I will ignore the IQ route thing.....I like doing it the old fashioned way and dragging my own waypoints etc. _________________ TomTom 720
