Princeton, NJ – December 8, 2008 - ALK Technologies today announced PC*MILER Navigator 430, an easy-to-use, portable navigation device designed specifically for owner operators, leased operators and company drivers. Now truckers will have the same kind of straightforward, all-in-one system that motorists have relied upon for years.
PC*MILER Navigator 430 provides spoken truck-specific directions in a lightweight, stand-alone device that is easily attached to a truck windshield. Powered by ALK’s award-winning CoPilot Truck GPS navigation technology, this innovative solution improves safety and reduces operating costs for both drivers and fleets.
The portable PC*MILER Navigator device with built-in GPS antenna and speaker features a 4.3 inch, color touch-screen that displays directions simply and clearly as they are spoken. Upcoming turns are displayed so they can be quickly understood at a glance, and the driver’s attention remains focused on the road. The navigation software and map data are pre-installed - all a driver has to do is turn it on and put it to work.
This professional navigation device provides dock-to-dock directions for the United States and Canada. Its industry-leading map database features over 7 million street-level miles and 850,000 miles of truck restrictions such as bridge clearances, load limits, and dangerous turns. PC*MILER routing options include Practical, Shortest, 53'/102” Trailer, HazMat, National Network, and Toll Avoidance with 13'6” height, 48' length, 80,000 pound weight, and 96” width restrictions. The system also allows users to enter custom vehicle dimensions for optimal routing. No other GPS navigation solution offers such comprehensive truck routing options.
“PC*MILER Navigator leverages 22 years of truck routing expertise and input from our 22,000 transportation and logistics customers,” said Craig Fiander, Vice President, Marketing for PC*MILER Solutions. “The efficiency provided by PC*MILER Navigator makes it a smart investment because fuel costs are and will continue to be a significant issue; plus it eliminates the need for professional drivers to use systems that are not truck-legal.”
PC*MILER Navigator’s spoken directions include actual street names, so instead of hearing “just ahead, turn right,” for example, a driver hears “1 mile ahead, turn right on Hughes Drive.” This added edge can avert wrong turns onto restricted streets or bridges which can be dangerous, expensive, and time-consuming. If PC*MILER Navigator detects that a truck is entering or already on a restricted road, it will immediately warn the driver and recalculate the route.
Getting out of one such situation, or avoiding it altogether, will easily pay for PC*MILER Navigator many times over. Drivers who use PC*MILER Navigator will conservatively reduce avoidable out-of-route, empty and dead-head miles by 20%, and earn more by hauling more loads in less time.
The large PC*MILER Navigator non-glare touch-screen allows drivers to enter up to 50 stops easily. Multi-stop route optimization and various trip planning features allow for routing comparisons and previews. The system also provides trip and fuel-cost estimations that help drivers and dispatchers determine the most profitable loads.
As an added value, the device provides automobile, motorcycle, and RV navigation options for personal and recreational use. The device also acts as a portable entertainment system supporting standard movie, music, and picture file formats. An e-Book reader is also included.
The suggested retail price for PC*MILER Navigator 430 is $349 and there are no on-going subscription fees. It’s available at truck stops across North America including Flying J Travel Plazas, Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores, Petro Stopping Centers, Pilot Travel Centers, and Travel Centers of America (TA). Fleets may purchase directly from ALK Technologies by calling 800-377-6453.
Since 1979, ALK Technologies has developed innovative mobile navigation and transportation technology solutions. ALK’s award-winning CoPilot Live GPS software is the navigation based services platform of choice for mobile operators, hardware OEMs and systems integrators globally. ALK’s PC*MILER routing, mileage and mapping solutions are used by over 22,000 transportation, logistics and manufacturing companies worldwide. Press release: 15.12.08 Intel Tops New ABI Research UMPC Platform Vendor Matrix Ranking
NEW YORK - December 15, 2008 -
Intel Corporation (INTC) has been ranked at the top of the latest Vendor Matrix released by ABI Research.
Via Technologies and Texas Instruments (TXN) claimed the second and third spots in the company’s new evaluation of worldwide ultra-mobile PC platform vendors.
”As more expensive vertical market-focused devices, UMPCs rely on the ability to run Windows so that existing enterprise applications can be used on them,” says principal analyst Philip Solis. “This favors Intel and Via, helping secure their first and second rankings. Ubuntu being ported to ARMv7, and the increasing number of ARMv7-based platforms offer alternatives as long as more enterprise software vendors take Linux seriously.”
The Vendor Matrix is an analytical tool developed by ABI Research to provide a clear understanding of vendors’ positions in specific markets. Vendors are assessed on the important parameters of “innovation” and “implementation” across several criteria unique to each vendor matrix.
For this particular matrix, under "innovation," ABI Research examined the speed with which vendors brought products to market, the flexibility of their solutions or designs, bundling of WWAN, WPAN and/or GPS, the use of x86 or Cortex A-8 (or higher) processors, and the products’ support for 720p HD video.
Under "implementation," ABI Research scrutinized the following criteria: the vendors’ announced design wins, their experience with CE and mobile device vendors, their experience with PC vendors, whether they support all PC operating systems, and whether they support all lower level operating systems.
The UMPC Platform Vendor Matrix is part of a group of vendor matrices for UMDs. The same criteria for platform vendors are used for all three, but the weighting of the criteria is different for each type of UMD.
To view a chart showing the rankings of the “top 5” firms in this Vendor Matrix, please visit “UMPC Platform Vendor Matrix.” Registration on the ABI Research website (free) is required. Access to the rankings and profiles of all companies surveyed is available to clients of ABI Research.
This Vendor Matrix forms part of ABI Research’s MIDs and Mobile CE Research Service. For a list of all ABI Research Vendor Matrices, please visit The ABI Research Vendor Matrix.
ABI Research is a leading market research firm focused on the impact of emerging technologies on global consumer and business markets. Press release: 15.12.08 3D Laser Mapping win major order for StreetMapper 360 with Dutch surveying specialist Geomaat
Geomaat, an independent surveying specialist based in the Netherlands, has placed an order for the world’s most accurate mobile laser mapping system, StreetMapper 360. Following rigorous trials of the system Geomaat has selected the vehicle mounted laser scanning solution to support expansion of their international surveying operations.
Geomaat has also agreed to work in partnership with 3D Laser Mapping, the UK developers of StreetMapper 360, to jointly develop new solutions for the European surveying market.
StreetMapper 360 has been designed for the rapid 3D mapping of highways, infrastructure and buildings using vehicle mounted lasers. Travelling at normal road speeds, StreetMapper 360 offers a 360-degree field of view with high precision mapping to a range of 300m.
Capturing every detail along the highway corridor including barriers, gulleys and overhead wires, surveyors can create highly accurate 3D computer models for new scheme planning, maintenance, wide load route assessment and post-incident investigations.
“StreetMapper 360 has three major advantages over traditional surveying techniques and other solutions on the market; Speed, Accuracy and Safety,” commented Jolle Jelle de Vries, Managing Director of Geomaat. “With the inclusion of StreetMapper 360 in our surveying toolbox we hope to expand our operations internationally and also diversify with applications for coastal monitoring, 3D urban modelling and rail infrastructure mapping to name just a few.”
Before ordering the StreetMapper 360 system Geomaat undertook a serious of rigorous field trials in partnership with 3D Laser Mapping. During surveying of highways in Holland the StreetMapper collected data was compared with more traditional survey measurements obtained using total stations and levelling and the difference in results was found to be less than three centimetres in the both X,Y and Z.
“Using StreetMapper 360 it will no longer be necessary to undertake surveying in environments that may place the surveyor at risk,” continued de Vries. “Travelling at normal traffic speeds we can capture data to the same exacting standards, in a fraction of the time and without risk to personnel or other road users.”
StreetMapper, the result of a joint venture between 3D Laser Mapping, German guidance and navigation specialist IGI mbH and technology company Riegl. The system employs the latest laser scanning technology for improved field performance and accuracy, precision navigation including a solution for reduced GPS coverage in urban areas, combined with a flexible, modular configuration and increased ease of use and deployment.

Press release: 15.12.08 Stolen Truck Recovered Same Day With Aid of GPS Device
CARY, Ill., Dec. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- The existence of a GPS tracking unit in a fleet vehicle proved to be doubly advantageous when the truck was recovered on the same day after being stolen from the company's lot.
Three months ago, Todd Blackburn, Vice-President of Sales for CEIS/TECHSICO had the LandAirSea 8100 GPS tracking system installed in all 25 of the company's fleet trucks, primarily as a means of tracking their drivers' mileage and travel routes. What he hadn't actively considered was the possibility of auto theft and the role of the 8100 unit in the vehicle's recovery.
The L.A.S. (LandAirSea) 8100 device is a GPS tracking system designed to accurately determine the exact location of a vehicle in "real time." Used either as a portable device operating on an internal lithium battery pack or connected directly to the vehicle's 12 volt power supply, the 8100 unit can be set to update its location from every second up to 30 minutes and anywhere in between. Its hardware and software are designed for use in both single unit portable applications or large fleet management installations, such as CEIS/TECHSICO's.
In Tulsa, Oklahoma, on the morning of Wednesday, October 15th, a vehicle was reported stolen from the company's parking lot. By changing the frequency of the 8100 unit's updating to second-by-second intervals, Blackburn was able to view the thief's route on Google Earth(R). Within just hours of its disappearance, the stolen vehicle was recovered undamaged.
"The LandAirSea 8100 unit was initially purchased as a productivity tool to track mileage," said Blackburn. "We are pleased to have been able to use this product to retrieve a valuable company asset as well."
About CEIS/TECHSICO
CEIS/TECHSICO is a Tulsa, Oklahoma based business that specializes in project engineering, furnishing, implementation and testing of low voltage systems. They have additional offices in Augusta, Georgia and Las Vegas, plus a number of remote stations across the continental United States.
About LandAirSea
Located in Cary, Illinois, LandAirSea has been a groundbreaking manufacturer of powerfully engineered GPS tracking solutions and software for nearly two decades. Press release: 15.12.08 Global Recession, Not Mistletoe, Hangs Overhead This Holiday Season
IBISWorld Forecasts This Year's Winners and Losers
LOS ANGELES, Dec. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Holiday sales are expected to fall 3.3 percent this season, according to IBISWorld, the nation's most respected independent publisher of industry research. With stockings full of economic uncertainty, Americans are curbing spending on big ticket items.
Naughty and Nice
The industries facing particularly tough conditions are home furniture and decor; consumer electronics and appliances; computer and software retailers; specialist clothing and accessory stores; cards and gift stores; and department stores.
"Retailers will be fighting hard for fewer holiday dollars," said George Van Horn, senior analyst with IBISWorld. "While that includes aggressive pricing and promotions, merchants are also entering the holidays with more conservative inventory levels and expectations. In years past, department store inventories rose during December, but this year's stocks may decline even if foot traffic is sluggish."
Make a List...and Checking it Twice
Unlike in prior years, splurging on high priced gifts will not be the theme of this holiday season. In fact, fine jewelry; plasma TVs. and large LCD televisions; as well as laptops, will take a dive in favor of less-flashy, more affordable items. Such gifts will include digital cameras, mobile phones that play videos, radio, and even offer a handy low-cost GPS feature. Other gifts sure to be popular this season include MP3 players, BlackBerrys, Apple iPods, DVDs, chocolates, wine, and gift cards pre-loaded with credit for everything from airline tickets to your favorite latte at Starbucks. This will be the season when lower-priced gifts will be more appealing than top-end.
"Consumers are painfully aware of the rocky year ahead," explained Van Horn. "Job security is a major factor reducing discretionary spending this holiday." _________________ Robert Brady

Press release: 15.12.08 DirectView Technology Group's Wholly Owned Subsidiary Shows Greater Benefits in Comparing Tracking Devices to its Competitors
Company Posts Direct Head to Head Comparisons of Cyber Tracker to LoJack
BOCA RATON, Fla., Dec. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- DirectView Technology Group, Inc. (OTCPK: DVWG) a Company focused on ownership and management of leading technology companies, is pleased to announce that the Company's wholly owned subsidiary, Homeland Integrated Security Systems, compares its new CT-150 and CT-410 products with global leader LoJack, Corp., publicly traded on the NASDAQ as LOJN, in the stolen vehicle recovery market. Homeland Integrated Security Systems has posted the comparisons on its website as part of its new marketing and sales campaign to help generate more market share.
The CT-150 and CT-410 are low cost solutions that can help recover stolen vehicles using a combination of GPS and cellular platforms to track the vehicle's location. The CT-100 is a personal tracking device, while the CT-150 is used for standard GPS tracking applications, and is an economical device that is available on GSM platforms anywhere that a cellular or GPS signal is available. Both products are equipped to send a message to the owner if a vehicle is moved, providing an early warning notification when a vehicle is being stolen. LoJack's product also has this feature; however, it bears an additional cost of $400 on its customers. Compared to LoJack, the Cyber Tracker units can be used nationwide and worldwide, whereas LoJack can only be used in jurisdictions where police forces have adopted the tracking technology in their vehicles. Cyber Trackers can be tracked from any device that has internet access.
LoJack, publicly traded on the NASDAQ as LOJN, created the stolen vehicle recovery category more than 20 years ago and has since earned a 90 percent recovery success rate. Globally, more than 250,000 LoJack-equipped stolen vehicles worth over $5 billion have been recovered using LoJack technology. According to the most recent FBI Uniform Crime Report, 1.1 million motor vehicles were reported stolen, resulting in $7.4 billion in lost assets.
"We are confident that the benefits of the Cyber Tracker are exponentially superior, compared to any product on the market. Our goal is to market our product to eventually become the leading tracking technology devices nationwide," stated Roger Ralston, CEO of DirectView Technology Group, Inc.
DirectView Technology Group will be hosting a nationwide teleconference December 18, 2008. There is expected to be a high demand for the call-in lines for this Nationwide Teleconference and space will be limited. Please call 1-866-THE-APPL(E) or go to www.hissusa.com today to reserve your place and receive the information that will enable you to participate in the conference.
