When exporting to.ogg format, the default option is to additionally create an Audacity .aup project file of a few KB. Is there any possibility it is this file that you have transferred to your TomTom?
Since the .aup files are associated with Audacity the extension will not be visible unless enabled within Windows. Clicking the .aup file will start Audacity and run the saved sound file which could add to the confusion. This mistake can easily be made. |

Ah yes..... One of Audacity's little "quirks"!
If you use "Save", you get the following warning:
(Well I do anyway!)
But for me, it saves the project as the *.aup and the actual audio is saved inside about three nested folders (as a *.au format file)
I learnt early on to never use "Save", always "Export as..."
I usually use a different prog. anyway (Adobe Audition), but that's not free |

Hi Darren
Thanx for your lines. Got it.
And Mullet...thanks for your mail..No, I am very sure that I did not save the file in .au....I actually used "export in ogg" option.
And moreover, I finally managed to squeze the bit/sample rate to 50 kbps, which worked in tomtom. Earlier, I was doing it in 120 plus kbps, which apprently caused the problem.
Later Andy_P also made some clarifications, which are really helpful and as I intend to add countdown to the already available sound (.ogg) files, I am sure his tips and links will be quite helpful
best

Where are you seeing these kbps values? |

In Audacity programme itself....have a look at the left hand side of the penal where it says mute..solo and where there is a downword arrow mark...You can also change the values there.

Odd...
From that drop-down menu I can adjust the bit depth ("set sample format") and the playback sample rate ("set rate"). But can't see any settings or info expressed in kbps. I'm on v1.3.2
Also, beware of the "set rate" setting as that changes the playback rate only , and thus changes the pitch and duration of the audio.
To re-sample and save at a different sample rate, you should use the "Project Rate" box at the bottom of the screen.
It is that figure which determines the properties of the exported file. |

Oops!...
Andy-P, Mullet
Sorry I was wrong. As Andy_P says, it is exactly there and that is the correct way...
I can see the kbps info when I play an ogg file in Organiser, provided by Creative.....it came with the sound software.
And Andy_P....many thanks again, I finally managed to get back my favourites by following your [and (thanks) Mike's] instructions.
